Easier to do, and as we all know, coupe versions (any car model) weigh less that convertables.

ok, being a member of s2ki.com for 4 years, I will not claim to know it all. I will say, however, this topic has been beaten to death over and over and over.
first off, the S2000 is produced BY HAND. It is built by hand from the moment one starts production in tochigi, japan. This alone makes it a limited vehicle in my opinion. Not to mention they cannot churn out as many S2k's as they want. (in fact only one technician per car is allowed to build the engine from start to finish)
Also, the facelift the S2000 got from the MY04 is all you will see for probably another 2 years. There is no current truth to honda discontinuing the S2000, and they will continue to make them since they are continuing to sell well.
This car was built for one purpose. To bring a tossable, sporty, high-strung roadster to the masses that demanded it from Honda. Every inch of the car was designed to fulfill this, and provide a unique driving experience.

and nothing has changed? they just increased the engine size, and gave it a face lift.

sorry man, you can't change perfection.

along with the increase in engine size, new front and rear "face lifts," it got larger wheels and tires, upgraded suspension and abs, and slight interior modifications
also, s2000man01, they were supposed to make an s2000 coupe a fews years back.....do you know what happened to that? why it never made it into production?

i dont know where you heard that from. the S2000 began design in 1995 and was intended to ALWAYS be a convertible roadster. a coupe was NEVER planned nor was it ever even thought of. the car was designed as a convertible from day 1, and every component from the wind screen, shape of the roll bars, the chassis, a-pillar, and frame were all designed for a convertible. Making the car a coupe would probably actually be disadvantageous since the entire design was for open top function.
that would defeat the entire purpose of them designing a roadster. All previous S cars (the S500, S600, and S800) were roadsters as well. coupe versions were never offered.

you may actually even remember seeing a picture of a silver or white S2000 "coupe". it was a great fraud actually, and turned out to be a photoshop a magazine had done.

good point. the miata is an awesome car. and it's been around a lot.
in fact, you can thank the success of the miata for the S2000 coming to life.
