reverse prob

im driving an 01 LX auto and for some damn reason it doesnt want to pop into gear anymore. i have to keep sticking the key in the little slot then start it in nuetral. anybody have any ideas why it doesnt want to go into gear?
in other words its getting stuck in park and doesnt want to move.
