civic vs cobalt
lol, I test drove this car over the weekend, actually it was the SS. Feels slow in speed and cornering with heavy understeer. didn't get a great look at the interior but nothing seemed to catch my eye. isn't worth the price tag if you ask me

Cobaltowner,
Why try to reason with some of the people here? It is obvious the most of them have a bias. Just the simple fact of them comparing it to a Cavalier should be enough of an indication to you.
It is clear that the Cobalt has its advantages over the Civic and the Civic has its advantages over the Cobalt.

first off mking if u think the ss is slow then something is wrong or u didnt really test drive it b/c the ss run low to mid 14's stock...eman that is true ive seen they are bias...i just dont see why people are bias like that...also yes they both have disadvantages and both have advantages over each other

My point is why bother arguing with them then? Your obviously won't change their minds so why bother let them live in their fairytale land.

Every car and manufacturer has there own plus side. How ever from my and my friends exp. its that chevy does not yet know how to build a good 4cyl. A buddy of mine threw a rod on a 01 s10 at 15k miles. Anther buddy of mine went through 4 engines before getting some thing new. If you think of what manu has been building 4 cyl engines for along time.....its imports. That has been the staple of there buis. Ya the hp ratings are good but do you want a race car or some thing fun to drive every day that is goiing to be reliable and hold its value. People have there brands but time and time again import 4cyl can be abused and last along time. Like my 82 datsun truck. It had 145k on it when I got it and it was my first car. I sold it a year later with dents and scrapes but it had 198k on it and still ran as good as new. And believe me I drove it as hard as possible. But hey without some one to purchase other cars how is any one going to know if its good or not. Also you really can not expect all good results comin on a civic site. Just like me and my buddies site sacstangs I do not have much to say about my car since they take the ol every thing import is rice. So I do not post too much about my ride just cause I do not want to hear it. I am not saying you should stop but more like realize that some peeps are into there brands and some can like all. I would really like to see and hear more about yours. Trick it out.....I have not seen one yet in this town. Let alone some modded one.

Well normally i wouldnt respond to such nonsense..however as a PROUD Chevy Cobalt SS owner i couldnt resist...My car is far from a Cavalier thank you, please make sure you have an idea of what you are talking about before you decide to release such an untrue comparison. stock i have seen dyno sheets that put "our" cars at 220hp at the wheels so... My car can make over 19psi of boost with the proper equipment added.. and my pistons and crank can take up to 400hp can yours?..Has honda even released a real car that can actually go fast... Can they tote the horsepower ratings of a old mustang, camaro, or corvette(besides ones that race on the circle/road courses.... ummm....NO so before you start trashing something you know nothing about THINK..and remember.....

omg. there are hondas that have 300 horsepower stock. the s2k is 240 stock. 2.0 naturally aspirated. lets see a chevy do that. hey if you really want to start talking about real horsepower, take a look at all these 400-600 horsepower hondas running around in the magazines. yeah it takes time to build that but its worth it. its so easy to push horsepower from a v8. i would not buy a v8 unless it had at least 300 hp stock. its a challenge to pump 400 hp out of a 4 banger. honda has plenty of cars that can beat a cobalt ss. here take a look, RSX-s, s2k, RL, V6 accord, and if you slap a supercharger to a civic i am sure it would spank a cobalt. you go do some research. then tell me different. btw if it takes a bottle to spank an ss then so be it.
good god people, the Cobalt is a decent car! the world does not revolve around Honda. At least give GM credit for taking a HUGE step in the right direction. If the SS didn't have that huge azz wing, I would probably be driving one right now. I love Honda dearly, but they just aren't interesting me as they used to. Its nice to see some new faces like the Cobalt.

This is this guys 1st post and he's obviously needs to be schooled because anyone who makes comments like these hasnt seen civics like iceburgslim's
and many others I could start naming but whats the point? this is an ongoing lame argument anyway. Lots of cars out on the road are fast and theres always going to be someone faster than you...
When I saw the Cobalt SS for the first time on the web I was like damn! Chevy made a very nice looking car to compete on the import scene...I'm not going to hate, I do like the car esthetically and have been reluctant to test one as well, but even if I did, I don't think I'll buy one. For almost 10 years now I've been a proud owner of 3 civics and they have never let me down. Whether it's reliability, economy, durability or pocket happy, the Civic's got it all in one. I've considered owning other cars, but the the joy my vic provides when handling turns and still feel a gust of air on my face with a smile from ear to ear, compensates for its lack of power and brings me back for more. Yes, I wish vics were more powerfull at times, but finally, the new Si will come out soon to compete with the rest of the market. I'd dare to predict that nicely equiped, the new Si will easily kick the SRT, the Scion & the SS ****...we'll see...

Oh and with 205hp in the SS, that is gonna whoop a Civic's *** any day of the week.

Put in the track it can do better times than another well known American-pocket-rocket... the (aggressive-looking) Neon SRT-4 (aggressive-looking and Neon never seemed to be in the same sentence up to the launch of the SRT-4... heh). Come on! Even in the American Le Mans its one of the best contenders for it's class!
I still have my doubts about the quality of American cars though. Down here in Puerto Rico most American cars turn out to be pieces of poopie... especially GM's cars. I don't know about Chevy much... but I have been noticing it seems to be interested in being the only American company to change that image of low-quality. And I'm NOT counting the luxury lines in the likes of Cadillac or Lincoln.
But still. That's only my opinion.

no they dont have the vtec like civics and all other acura/hondas...id rather not have it b/c it takes it to long b4 the power band kicks in...i drive a delsol si that has the d16z6 in it vtec doesnt even kick in till around 5k-5.5k im sorry but that is to high for me...i drive this car back and forth to work but as far as racing it doesnt see any...if honda would make a car that had around the same torque as its hp it might actually get more respect than some give...i mean come on a 2000 civic 160hp with 112 tor that is a big gap :;redline 8200:: thats a long ways especially since it doesnt make most of its power till around 5k-6k if i remember...the base cobalt 145hp and 155 tor max power by 5600rpms right when a civic is just hitting vtec by this time the cobalt is shifting and getting back into its powerband again...ss 220+hp and 200 tor makes max hp at 5600rpms as well.

I am not knocking any body here. But if you want a fast street race car just get a v8. WHy are we even slinging around the 200hp numbers. With any amount of money hp can be made from a soup can. Take nissans there japan sr20 can take 500+hp on stock internals. But in all reality I think that most civic owners know that there car has low power numbers but again do you want to drive a race car every day or a daily driver. I dare you to put 19psi to your stock motor and see just how long it will last. Yea peeps are boosting and nitrous but it will kill your longevity. My pops said it well when I was building my datsun Lz22 he said it will cost twice as much to build a four then an 8 and last half as long. Besides like I said before it is nice to see some diff cars on here and I hope you guys stick around but this whole civic vs cobalt thing, I mean really we have 127hp you 220hp........it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out who would win. I say lets get over this one and see just how good you guys can make those things look. And then post some pics. I really would like to see one modded.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

Id rather have a 500 horsepower 4-cylinder than a 500 horsepower 8-cylinder. who actually deserves respect and who deserves a mullet?
the V8 is the most played-out cheap-*** platform. anyone with a wrench can drop a crate engine in a car and press the gas. it actually takes skill and science to TUNE a 4-banger to over 300 horsepower. It takes alot of knowledge and skill. something the average american car buffs lack. I know it costs more but if shows your skill. plus not everyone wants 8mpg even when not racing around.
but in all honesty do you really think people car about corvettes with swaps anymore? They do care about twin turbo 350z's though. they care about evos, stis, rsxs, eclipses, and alot of other cars civic included. the american muscle phase is over. its boring, its lazy, its been done a million times. the lack of passion for more progress has halted all american sports cars to crap and the market for them to a much much smaller one than before.
the whole "if it aint broke dont fix it" attitude is making the american muscle car a thing of the past.
japanese car manufacturers look at their best selling car, and say: lets make it faster, get better gas mileage, look better, and be more agile. they never stop, and most likely won't. thats why import cars are so good and american car manufacturers are going under *cough*gm hopefully collapses soon, i hate them*cough*
thats my opinion at least.

lock this thread,
because at end of day, no significant number of people on this site would give more respect on cobalt; and no significant number of people on cobalt site would give more respect to HOnda.
However, there will be a larger number of flaming and hatress going on.

i give respect when respect is given to me..i dont hate on any hondas b/c i drive one...on the cobalt board im on not one person on there has hated on a honda ever....also the cobalts that was running the mid to high 15's that is the 2.2 ecotec thats the base engine...the ss engine is a 2.0 ecotec with the s/c and it runs low to mid 14's stock...so the guys ur friends si was racing was going against the stock base engines not a ss which is 145hp and 155 tor and weighs 2951 almost 300lbs more than a civic si
