What do you think of 05 Corolla?
What do you think of 05 Corolla?
Hey guys,
I'm thinking of buying a new car, or should I say my dad will for me. I've been looking around, and decided not to go for a truck.
A year from now, I'll be taking off to law school and want something roomy....hence a 4 door. So let's don't mention any 2 doors.
With that being said, and not going for something expensive, nor cheap looking like a Dodge Neon, I thought about an 05 Toyota Corolla.
I haven't even driven one, so it's just a thought.
But with the ground kit they got on it, sleek fog lights, nice headlights, and the purple color, it looks decent.
The interior is nice looking, comfortable, and roomy. It's a 1.8L, 16 valve....not the fastest, but hopefully the pickup will be good.
So what do you guys think? For $12,000....maybe cheaper...it sounds alright. But then again..........you get what you pay for. Any thoughts?

they aren't bad. my girlfriend got one and it's not a bad little car. she chose it over a civic, and with the price they gave her and the options it came with (even a 6-disc in dash cd changer) it was better than the deal she was getting from honda on an EX.
hmmm, I'm suprised theres no flaming on the Corolla. So far things are looking good for the Corolla. Oh and as for the purple color, I um meant blue....sort of like the Figi blue on the Civic. But I think they make a purple too...I don't know.
It looks nice, but IMO its too girly (but your a girl, right?)... i rather drive a civic coupe than a corolla-s. Don't even waste your money on a XRS, you get better peformance from other vehicles than that for cheaper.
Better fit and finish on it than a civic, but the exterior styling leaves a bit to be desired IMO. THey have great fuel economy and reliability though, and much better resale value than civics do. If you like the car, then go for it.

...
I just checked Blue Book trade in values... a 2001 Civic LX vs. a Corolla LE, similarly equipped, mileage, condition, Civic $8,700 Corolla $7,100.
2003 same thing, Civic $11,650 Corolla $11,600.
It is untrue that Civic is worth less than Corolla.

I would pick civic sedan over corolla any day. There's no comparison imo. It does look okay but it's not really any faster and looks kinda strange from the front. I would get a mazda3 instead if the civic was out of the picture. Or maybe even a scion
The blue book isnt real...dealers arent paying out what they should according to blue book for 7thgens. 6thgens are holding value but 7thgens are not.
BTW, corollas are cheaper than civics, so even though they may cost the same or less in the blue book, its actually a better resale because the original cost was less.

anyhow, if I didnt have the Civic, I may go with the Corolla, but at the time, the dealer wouldnt moce away from MSRP so.....
Civic may look better, but overall, Corolla isnt bad. It's hard to believe that some of you are saying they are imcomparable when they are really in the same class of cars. For the price, here in NYC, it's possible to get an LE 5 speed for about $13,500.... I think thats a pretty decent deal. It would be hard to find a 05 Civic LX for that kind of price.
Corolla S on the other hand, doesnt offer much to fork over the extra $$ IMO. The XRS has a better engine.... but perhaps not a good choice for a daily driver due to low torque where the car is used most.
I think Corolla is a great car. Both Corolla & Civic are great cars. Both cars have excellent resale value. You really can't go wrong with either one of them. When it comes down to it, it really more of a personal preference. My personal opinion, I would choose a Civic sedan over a Corolla because I find Civic feels & look more sportier than a Corolla.

The XRS is the 170hp 6 speed Corolla. I believe it also comes with a sport suspension and a few other goodies (strut tower brace, bigger wheels, etc). It'd probably be a fun little car. Overall you can't go wrong with the Corolla in any trim. The interior is far superior to that of the 7th gen Civic, and the motors are pretty comparable to what Honda's doing. If you like the looks, drive one and see what you think.

Like I said, i would buy a civic coupe over a rolla-s but to say the coupe is the best overall car to buy period, is a totally drunk statement. I would take a mazda 3 or scion tC over the coupe.
Anyways, the XRS is a performance tuned rolla-s, it goes head up with the sI, but it runs 7.6 and a 16.1, so the pefromance is better than an ex, but its more similar to sI #'s.
Well I went for a test drive in the Corolla-S, and I don't know.
It picks up good, turning is nice and tight....turns on a dime, is comfortable on the highway, the gauges are cool! As for the interior....yeah it looks different....seems to be rattle-proof. I'm not sure if it's interior is superior then the Civic?
But the cons of driving the Corolla is throwing me off. The seats hurt my back ( kind of ), the startup of the Corolla is kind of nasty....doesn't start up as well as the Civic, and the engine is kind of noisy. And last the suspension is alittle stiff. I don't know yet.......oh and the arm rest is not really a arm rest but a console......located very low of the car.

civic 4 door looks a lot better. def. go for a stick. corolla is way too high. i drove my uncles and it feels like it was going to roll over as compared to my lowered vic. its up to you though. whatever you like.
my dad has corrola-s(he used to have my 4dr civic)
he pretty much says with the stock tires it's all over the road compared to the a civic.
little faster than the civic, but everything looks cheap in the interior in corrola after you've driven it a while, and have wore it in a little
better gas mileage than civic
xrs has carbon fiber interior
