what do you think of hyundai?
My girlfriend is looking around for a new car. Shes not into performance at all, but would like a car with power everything. She doesnt wanna spend more than $7000, and wants a relatively low mileage car.
I found this 2002 Hyundai Accent.. 34k miles, 4d, 5spd, power doors, locks, mirrors.. the small garage is asking $6000 for it. What does everyone think about hyundais? I noticed that its not too common that I see old hundais on the road EVER. Its as though they just started making cars! In fact, I dont remember the last old hyundai Iv'e ever seen. I always see old hondas and toyotas...
Her dad reccomends she get a more quality car, even if it has more miles and costs a bit more. She wants to stick to sub compacts like the civic. she likes sentras too (i think the old ones are ugly).
Around the block from my house, this garage is selling a 4d 95 civic 5spd w/77k miles for $3500. its an ex, so it has all the goodies.
which is better? I mean, the hyundai is almost new, the civic is almost 10 years old. the civic has more than twice the mileage. But...its a civic.
Also- the hyundai has a 5 yr 60k transferable warranty that she can use..it also has some minor trunk damage (pic)
here are some pics of the hyundai accent

cant go wrong with DOHC, but than again its a hyundai... suddenly the rank high on the reliability list and there is alot of them on the streets. If she just wants a DD (daily driver) go ahead and get it, but if she for modding, that's the wrong vehicle. Than again, there are other cars thats better for the same price if not lower or a lil more.
My mom had a hyundai years ago and she loved it to death, to it almost killed her (car accident), there tuff vehicles, but you cant forget other manufactors like... honda/toyota/nissan/mitsubishi

please tell her not to buy it my mom had a 99 accent and that thing after it passed 60k it only gave her problems:tranny /ac/brakes/ radio/ window rails/ windshield washer motor / tons of bulbs and other things that i cant remember right now
the car had the 100k guarrantee and luckily all those things were covered by it but it was really annoyng to get ur car to the shop ever month or so / they gave her a loaner car though because she was the first owner of the car i duuno if that applies to used cars...
after 5 years oh haveing that pain i was driving it because my car was in the shop for maintenance, and all of the sudden headlights start to blink, the radio started to come off and on, the lights on the dash became bright as hell, and smoke started to come from the ac vents (i was driving the the windows down no ac on ) and the engine started to rev by itself hit redline and then everything shutted down and the whole car was moking like when cable is burning. i coulnd see anything but thankfully it was like 1am so no other cars wee on the road i did my bes to pull over and get out of the car as fast as i could. there was no fire whatsoever but all the electronics in ther car were gone i opened the hood after the smoke went away and the battery saw spilling liquid all over we had to tow the car to the dealership and the guys had the car for almost a month and counldnt find anythin that caused the damage they say the battery exploded because the alternator send an extreme overcharge of electricity to it (the amount of volts it sends to the spark plugs) but that wasnt the reason for the damage... after months of having the car ther they decided that the car wasnt fixable and they gave my mom $2500 towards the purchase of a new car she bought a mazda protege5 but like a monnth later chaged it for a 04 crv
sorry for the long story but those cars are worst than ford or chevy plus they depreciate like crazy

if the transferrable warranty is legit, then it may be a good idea since she just needs a car to get around. a civic is more reliable BUT i agree how its nearly 10 years old.
i would look around and wait longer and eventually a great deal will come by. with $7000, you can get a 99 civic and it'll definately be the better choice (assuming the previous owner didnt beat it to death).
you should check into other cars like the toyota corolla. very reliable. i see lots of 80's corollas rolling around and im suprised their still running strong..
www.kbb.com is a real good source btw

I'd stick with older Honda's. that's just me.
Hyundai/Kia quality is improving, but I'm still not at the point where I'd pick one over a comparably equipped Honda.
The Civic you mentioned might be farily old, but it costs half as much, so you can spend some on repairs if any are needed.

my mom has a sonata V6 right now...pretty quick vehicle and gets good gas mileage for a V6...but her check engline light has come on 3 times, first time they replaced the O2 sensor, still came on, then they said the MAP sensor was malfunctioning replaced that...a week later it came back on and then they said it was the O2 wires, not the sensor itself, i just think they dealers are dumb, other than that its a good car, i think
