You know, I know and we all know BMW and BENZ are classified as prestige lexury car. Over priced or not. Reliable or not. Buying it or not, that is people's choice.
How about you drive your car to your dealer and tell them to write you a paper claiming that BMW and BENZ are in fact not classified lexury prestige car, also claim that they have more prestige than those brands. Scan it, and show it here.

U.S. cars reliablity has increased because they have been using the same parts bin for many, many years. They are just now starting to stray away from their well proven pushrod powerplants. As for the Japanese, they do build high quality stuff with a fair amount of technology, but for the most part, they do not build awe inspiring vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I love Japanese cars, but I don't dream of owning a Lexus or Acura. I want the ultimate driving machine, and if that means I have to work through new technology with BMW, I am willing to do it.

any civic will outhandle a jetta. Jetta will feel more secure buts its nose heavy, its fat and its got a solid beam type rear suspension. Honda civics are light and nimble and have multi0-link double wishone rear suspension. The honda civic should outhandle a jetta any day of the week. I agree that the 1.8T is powerful but it can't handle.

And I can go to my dealer and he will put on paper that Benz and BMW aren't prestige cars, scan it and post it, but you coudn't read it becaus it's dutch.
Here 70% of people are driving BENZ, BMW and VW. I had BMW 320i, overpay it, expensive parts, and than sell it and bougt civic 92-95 (and blow the s*** out of it). My parents drive VW passat ( thats bigger car than jetta) and of all this cars I like most my little coupe. It drives best, more options for the money, cheap with gas. If I had money enough I woud buy Civic Type R .

I think that Audi A8, VW Phantom, Benz S, etc are prestige cars, but not small ones, like BMW 3, 5, BENZ A,C, E class

Prestige:
Now tell me why BMW and Benz don't have prestige, they go way back; take a look at their history.
Here's something that I've have wanted to let go for a while. For all of you import owners (specifically fwd 4cyl. guys) that have not owned anything but and Import, don't knock something that you haven't tried (european cars and maybe even american muscle). I used to have a civic, and as you all know a civic is an import, so all I knew were imports, imports imports imports; I was blinded by the light, so to speak. Now that I have stepped up, I broadened my horizons in the car category. So next time you're out test driving cars, looking for a new or used car, try something different and get educated. Free Your Mind.
This was not a stab/flame you guys and don't take offense to it.
Later.
- Widely recognized prominence, distinction, or importance
- Weight or influence derived from past success; expectation of future achievements founded on those already accomplished; force or charm derived from acknowledged character or reputation.
- a high standing achieved through success

Ok, if you are actually an euro guy then taht is a different story
But you make north america sound poor! I think only like 10-20% of our population drive BMW and BENZ
I'm going to say there are a hefty number of VW, BMW, Mercedes owners out here but I've seen a whole hell of a lot of Opel, Renault, Peugot, and Citroen as well. I'd say it's about a 50/50 split between Benz, BMW, VW owners and the rest.
^^^^Oriion, It's not that America is poor but it's a lot more affordable to buy a car that hasn't been hit by trade tariffs to drive up the price.

Let me try to bottom line it:
European cars aren't unrealiable, it's just that they have more **** on them that can break. It's numbers. Say 100,000 Tauruses were sold and 5,000 were lemons. And say 30,000 Intrepids were sold and 3,000 were lemons. You can't say Tauruses are less reliable just because more broke down. A lot more were sold. Look at percentages. 5% of Tauruses are lemons, but 10% of Intrepids were lemons. Even though more Tauruses broke down, Intrepids would be deemed least reliable. That's why I hate Consumer Reports. They go off of what people have reported. Well of course you will get more gripes from 100,000 owners than from 30,000 owners.

European luxury cars have more complex electronix and are much more powerful. Japanese cars designed for the north American market have issues as well. Honda oddysey toyota camry ..... all have there own problems. Honda civics are simple little cars(or atleast the previous gen). Usually if you buy a new german car like a bmw or merk its under warranty and rich people don't keep there cars forever so maybe the unreliability is not so bad given the prestige factor, and they probably only keep there cars for 4 years.
