Should i trade in?

Hey guys, i've got a 01 dx auto with 54K, it's got cai, and a pretty much full out system, infinity 6.5s up front with kenwood tweeters, infinity 6x9s in the back, with a crunch p125.2 pushing those, and a kicker dvc with a 1200w amp pushin that, i've done the painted interior, blacked out headlights, and altezzas, the H and keyhole in the back are shaved also. i owe 12,500 on the load and i was wondering if i should trade it in cuz i want a prelude or something that is NOT AUTO. i'm wondering how much i should get or how those places work that "pay off your loan no matter how much you owe" or should i just keep the slowmatic and wish for a manual....thx guys

jgrow44 is an unknown quantity at this point
try to sell privately with everything included or part out and trade it in. dealerships don't give credit for mods, most will give you even less. just my $.02

Well yes you can still trade in your car, but the way it works is if you still owe $12,500 on it and say the dealer gives you $7500 (might actually be different) then that leaves you with $5000 you would still have to pay, so they just transfer that amount over and at it onto the car that you choose. SO if you choose a prelude for say $7500, just add on $5000 and you will pay $12,500 plus TTL for the car. Thats how it works.

Now some dealerships offer the "we pay off your loans no matter how much you owe", but I always see a catch with that, I havent ever done it, but I guarentee you there is a catch, because if people owd thousands on there cars, and these places just paid it off and got you into a new car, they would lose money. So talk to them first about that.

But yes, like jgrow44 said, you will get offered less with those mods, especially since you painted the interior and shaved the keyhole and H holes.

$12,500 for an 01 DX, you must have a really high APR when you got the car. You are up-side-down of $4,000. (up side down means you owe more than your car is worth)

Anyway, according to KBB, your car (good condition I suppose) is worth:
Private Party Value = $8,960.00
Trade-In Value = $7,595

"pay off your loan no matter how much you owe" usually, they add the balance on your new loan. Sometimes it ONLY happens if you have a credit score of 800.

Like what they said, dealership doesnt pay for your mods.

If you decided to trade-in, you would have to come up with $4K to cover the up-side down value of your car. Then you will drive away with a prelude on a new loan which you didnt made any downpayment if you only have $4K in your pocket. Now, if you want to put a $2,000 downpayment for that prelude, you will be needing $6K. Is it worth it? you be the judge.

You can sell it but I doubt someone will pay you $12,000 for that even with those mods.

my opinion? keep the car, its too late to trade because you are in deep up-side-down value. Keep it but refinance to a lower APR.

If ya still have all ur stock stuff like the stock air box, head lights, tail lights, etc, then just trade for a newer civic 5-speed. That's what i did, and i'm satisfied. Then just put all that stuff on ur new one, including the system and whatnot. Just my opinion

don't bother. the higher car payments from the negative equity plus the higher insurance and gas payments (possibly even speeding payments) will weigh you down even more
