Just bought Civic

I just bought a 1992 Civic LX. Has 5 speed transmission and EG8 Engine code. VIN is JHMEG8556NS0421815. I have read that the car was assembled in Japan and EG8 means the engine is D15B. The car really seems have too much power to be 100HP. Is it possible that the engine could be a V-TEC?

Open your hood and look on the engine. Should say, VTEC. Didnt VTEC come out in 94 though? I dunno...WELCOME THOUGH!

I went here http://asia.vtec.net/specs/egcivic/ and looked up my engine code; EG8 and I then followed the list. I know it's not carburated, so the only other option is V-TEC on the list B15A 1.5l. No V-TEC logo on the valve cover.. Japan manufactured. Hauls butt too! I bought it from the original owner who had kept all of the original paper work and documents from 1992 on.

why did you buy such a old car? It probably is running less than 100HP if it is a 1992 unless it has a top notch engine, running clean and in great shape, but I doubt it.

Actually a magazine got a old civic as a project car when they did a base run it turned out it had more horsepower than it should being stock, it was later found that a large amount of carbon build up on the pistons raised its compression
