Why? To get midrange and high-end power. That's why. Motor Trend (or maybe it was Car and Driver) said you had to launch the STi at like 5500rpm or more to get a good launch. That's where all of the power is. A supercharger would get more power down low.

You know, there was an Integra that was turboed and supercharged. But I wouldnt say crazy HP b/c of the super charger b/c that turbo is so damn large already. I'm sure you can get more WHP from just proper management and a large turbo. They could have put the supercharger in b/c the turbo has way too much lag, resulting in better response. Or it could be all for show.......... but still.... awesome!
