well the tranny has a safety lock to keep you from shifting it into 1st at any speed above 20mph.. just like its got another lock to keep you from shifting from 5th to reverse

I did a 2nd to 1st drop going 40mph trying to hit 3rd 
when learning. The compression is still good though so I did not hurt anything except maybe the clutch
