Rep Power: 310 most any car can last a long time. It's just up to the owner whether he wants to keep it for that long. If you beat your car on a regular basis, dont expect it to last.
a family friend's 80s accord has something like 600k on it. And one of the city vehicles when I used to work at city hall actually went over (into the million i think; it has been retired)

So many people? That one stranger was a dumbass but that's just one person.... but since you said "people" that means one or more of your family members/relatives are dumbasses too?
Unless the stranger "dude" let someone else borrow it before he gave it back...
funny....

Read again, 5 people. My uncle gave it to someone else in the family & got it back before he gave it to the other guy. The "dude" was a big retard & tore it up, the other four family members just drove it hard & yes a couple, mostly my brother though, did dumbass things with it.

Drove it awhile, then gave it to this dude that needed a car. He ragged the HELL outta it, gave it back bout a year later, said the tranny was acting up, ended up being some stupid easy fix. Uncle drove it for a while then gave it to my dad, who drove it awhile & gave it to my brother for his first car. He drove it for a like 2 years before my dad got severely rear ended in it & it was totaled.
Now this car had been passed back & forth to so many people, some were dumbasses who never took care of it, all who drove it HARD. The odometer had been rolled over twice that we knew of by the time my dad got it(only went to 100k) & was almost back to 100K. Before it was totaled it had zero problems with the engine & was the only car that drove home out of a 3 car accident. Hell, my dad even drove it around a few times before they hualed it off, only problem really was the *** stuck way up in the air & it had frame damage
Say what you want about Dodge, but they have made some tough *** cars!!

I can't remember all the years
Civic-412,000
Civic-318,000
Accord-385,000
Accord-275,000
1966 Ford Step-Side-1,685,000
1972 Jeep Cj5-840,000
It's not the car, it's the owners knowledge & love of the car that will keep it around as long as you want.

Rep Power: 0 (usual life span of any car about 100,000 even if that)
That is a crock - there are plenty of 100,000+ miles cars out there from all makes. One hundred thousand miles is not a big deal for any modern vehicle. Hell , even my 88 Escort was running well at 170,000 when I sold it.
As far as Hondas I have seen - Indy Honda had a 87 Accord in their showroom with "low mileage" on the window - looked at the odometer and it was 300,000!
One dealership salesman told me of an article he read where a guy had a million mile Accord.
Mine own 2001 has 88,000 on it so far.

Rep Power: 0 I just drove an Acura Legend at work (I think it was a Legend, I'll look tommorow if I remember), with a little over 430,000 miles on it. I had to look a few times to see if the odometer was correct, heh. Funny thing is, it actually drove okay, but I doubt it has the original engine, who knows.

Rep Power: 0 When I was trying to choose a new car I talked to this guy in an old a$$ Accord with 400K on it, looked real good for that many. Needless to say I bought a Honda. I also found a guy with a POS VW Rabbit with 300K.

with all these miles the cars have on them how much has it cost to keep them running, timing belts, water pumps, berrings struts, ect??? im looking into a used honda with 120k on it and im worried how much i will have to put into it to keep it running. has anyone thought of that?
