crashed my civic.. need advice
i drove off the road into a ditch from sliding on black ice when veering onto a highway.. I ran through a mile marker also.. the front bumper is completely destroyed, 1 broken headlamp, and damage on the side underneath the drivers side door.. the back was also destroyed when the tow truck winched my car out of the ditch...this guy was real careless and when the car got pulled out the muffler got destroyed along with the entire back bumper... my two front tires also came off my stock rims causing them to go flat.. so there could be more than just body damage (axle or whatever?)... I'm not so sure what i should do, i have a thousand $ deductable on my insurance but the damage is way more than that... should i fix and sell? try to go aftermarket on bumpers? or do u see any other options.. i am lost and extremely pissed... any advice or input would be appreciated
man...i thought i was in bad shape when my civic got broken into last night but hearing your story makes me feel better (sorry). i wish i could give you some advice but i'm pretty pissed off myself.
I was in a similiar situation as you at one time. I made the mistake of not getting it covered by insurance. My advice to you would be to get the car's damage estimated at a shop and then make your decision from there. If it is slightly over a thousand in damage you may want to fix it yourself if you have the money. Otherwise claim it on your insurance.
Just a note, a bodykit plus paint job will run you more than a thousand if you want it done right. So if you go that route make sure you have enough money for a decent paintob. Theres nothing worse than a killer bodykit with a sub par paintjob.
Sorry about your misfortune.

first get an estimate. a car adjuster would estimate the damage and tell you how much it would cost to fix it. then depending on your deductable you decide if you want to fix it or not. sometimes the insurance itself will claim your car totalled if they don't want to waste money on your car. what you could do is get the estimate and get the money from the insurance and find a cheaper place to get it done.
for example:
estimate: 2000
deductible: 1000
---------------------
insurance money: 1000
this means you will pay the first 1000 and anything more than that, the insurance company will cover it. so if your estimate was 2000 for example, you pay1000 and insurance would pay 1000 for your car.
i have 250 deductable so when my car got keyed i made an estimate and the company gave me the money and i went a cheaper place.
estimate: 900
deductable: 250
---------------------
insurance money: 650
so i went to a different body shop and ask them to fix it for 650. they said alright and fortunately i didn't have to pay a cent on fixing my car.
hope everything works out dude.

You most likely will not see a return in investment on the bodykit anyway. Most parts, even performance do little to add value to the vehicle. Usually the only cars that really make any money off fixing them up are vintage cars. Most of the owner of these cars don't see the money they put into them anyway.
Bottom line is a car is not a good investment. Thats what owning property is for.
Is it the coming up with the thousand dollars for the deductible that is the problem? If so maybe some family can help you or you could put the deductible on a credit card.
I know what you are going through but believe me I've been down this road. I did the bodykit and all that for the same reasons. Now I would have rather just had my car fixed.
I'm sure you will make your own decision on this anyway but at least give it some thought.
