They could stick a turbo on the cavalier and I still wouldn't consider buying one. For the same reason I wouldn't have a SRT-4...poor reliability and poor quality. Let's face it, Neons and Cavaliers don't have a winning track record in their reliability.
It also has very poor crash test results, mainly from side impact, for which it got only 1 or 2 out of 5 stars.
On a lighter note, I thought the previous cavalier bodystyle was decent for an american car, but then they redesigned it and it's ugly again.

A friend of mine got one...he think's he's hot stuff but knows absolutely nothing about his car other than what the salesman told him. So my friend tries to talk to me like a salesman to tell me what it's got. I peed on his tires once though, so I'm okay
thats what i mean when i said their liking the engine... so far its been reliable. the old cavys were just peices of ****, ya. remember its not like focus or something where its bound to break down.
as for looks i dont think thier too bad lowered with some 17s. its just all u see around town is stock

the ecotec has VVT, and from what Ive heard they are decent engines, the new Saturn ION Redline has a SC one, and its got some pretty good numbers. I think I saw one turboed in a magazine a while back, but I cant remember any of the details.
they blow...
My friend wrecked his about 3 weeks ago...he was going 65 down a highway and was picking his nose or some **** and his right tire went off the curb a slight bit, he didnt over correct but he right wheel just locked up when he tapped his brakes, he did a 180 across the highway into the median nailing a metal gurder....car was totalled on the exterior...now every time he sees a cavalier, he get mad

Some of you guys are just plain stupid. You just hear Cavalier or Neon or Kia and disregard what the subject is. You don't know anything about the Ecotec and just because it comes on a Cavalier you guys are ripping it apart.
The Ecotec has been in production since the 90's. Whats in the Cavalier and the in the Opel Speedster and in the Saab 9-3 is what resulted of years of cooperation between GM, Opel and Saab engineers. The Cavalier has the 2.2l, the Saab 9-3 has the 2.0l turbo version and I believe the Speedster has the 2.2l as well.
The Ecotec was able to make 270HP on STOCK INTERNAL. The Ecotec is the engine that gave GM the Pro FWD championship. The engine is a good one. That is why it the future engine for the GM, SAAB and Opel compact cars.

The engine itself is rather stout actually. The problem is really that GM transmissions are ****. The automatics always WAAAAAAY overdone for the size of the engine and as a result suck mad amounts of power, and the manuals shift like rubber. 140 HP and 150 ft-lbs comes down quite a bit on the way through the drivetrain. Not to mention the suspension is a piece of **** (I don't think its even independent yet), and sloppy as hell through the corners. Not to mention the car is chinsy as hell and has the Crapalier/Sunfarter reputation.
Therefore I give the engine a
(all you gotta do is look at the NHRA record)
and the car

F$#% the Cavalier
The Cavalier won't be produced after 2004. Why is the car even being brought up? Why not bring up the Saab 9-3, or the Opel speedster? The Ecotec comes in those cars too.
The question was about the engine.
If you really want to know about what the engine is capable of, this is a good web site
