Rep Power: 0 high mileage cars..
So i'm gonna be getting an older car soon, probably an early to mid 90's integra..and i'll most likely end up having to get one with 70 - 100k miles due to my budget..
I was just wondering, do you have to baby an engine when it's that old? Or can I still kick it up to 5 or 6,000 RPM every now and then like I do with my '02 vic?
thanks for any input..

Rep Power: 0 yeah you never know how that first 100k was so i would take it easier on it....i bought a jetta with 100k on it for my first car and the old wasn't changed in it that ofter and it was drivin like hell so i have to be more careful with it. It just really depends on the car and the history of that car

Rep Power: 399 It all depends how it was cared for. If it was well taken care of, the engine will probably outlast the rest of the car.... if someone let it go, then who knows. There are some things you just can't predict (things break no matter how they're cared for), but for the most part, a Japanese engine should go 150-200K no problem. 70-100K is like mid-life.
Just to be sure, I'd flush the oil, radiator and tranny fluid when you get it and put all new **** in, change the plugs and make any other minor tune up things. Also be sure to have the compression and timing checked BEFORE you buy the car.
Oh... and I AutoX with a guy who has 191000 Miles on an 83 VW GTi... still beats it like a horse. Mobil 1 does wonders.......
