Guys, I need your help...
Okay I searched and found mixed reviews. It's about that time for me, and I need to get a 4 door...me being the fool that I am, went to mazda today to look at the RX-8
Hey it's a 4 door isn't it...I was considering this or a WRX, and maybe an Sti...the salesman steered me over to the mazdaspeed protege, mainly because those backseats in the RX-8 are worthless...so now I don't know what to do...he quoted me at 18 grand, and I test drove it...only 170 hp with a turbocharged 2.0 L seemed a little low to me, but I've also read that it's actually 170 hp to the wheels...so I am so lost...but I've also read that it puts a respectable 160 lbs of torque down....the car was fun to drive, and seemed very well put together. But I'll miss my civic so much...what should I do? Is this car worth it? Should I hold out? What's your input?
Oh by the way...the car handles like a dream...I'd love to take it autocrossing..

Depends on how much you have. If you can afford it, get the sti and expect to drop some more into a stereo. RX8 is also very nice, as is the mazdaspeed. It's actually supercharged, not turboed, so it's working at every rpm.

The thing is that the Sti is 30 grand, and I'd have to wait about 4 months to save more for a good down. I can get the mazdaspeed today if I want to. Just don't know if I should. I need a 4 door sometime soon though...too bad the backseats in the RX-8 weren't bigger....they're roomy for your head, but not for your legs...
sti....... even though you have to waite for 4 months but i think it worth it. i never drive it before, but i was in my friend's sti, BIG POWER. i love it. but go for and other test drive. don't rush yourself
ever consider the '04 Sentra SE-R Spec V? puts down 180HP and 170 ft/lb of torque (i think, corect me if im wrong plz.) my friend drives one and its not that bad of a car, comes with 17's and is pretty quick because of its torque. back seats are really comfortable especially the headrests. the only problem is that its kind of goofy looking.
he got it for 22k so i duno if your willing to pay 4k more. just a suggestion, but i'd say go for the STi!

Just get a wrx, learn how to drive all wheel drive and then a year or two down the line if it is not enough power get an sti. I wanted an STI too but that car is meant to be on the track not the street. The WRX is a tamer car for street driving but has a lot more punch than the Protege. But ultimitly it's up to you....

I really suggest a TSX, if you want to wait, you could get a TSX A-spec.
Out of the two, I would say go for the MAZDASPEED Protege, because it's a very well balanced car and it has a really good price tag, unless you really need the AWD. If you want the AWD you might also want to check out the Evo, it's priced between the WRX and the STi.

I test drove one of those things and was waiting for it to fall apart on the way back the the dealer. Its beyond cheaped. The seats wobbled, the shifter needs a road map, the handling floats and it just doesn't feel like an overly solid car at all.

1. How old are you?
2. How's your driving record?
3. Make good money at your job?
If you're:
1. Under 25
2. Have a couple tickets
3. Don't make GOOD wages at your job
Then:
Prepare to be ***-raped by your insurance company if you opt for the STi.
Other than the insurance issue. . . get the car that best suits your needs. The TSX is the Acura that SHOULD have gotten the V6 but didn't. If you're looking for performance, steer clear of it. The RX8 has ABSOLUTELY NO LOW-END POWER, and the backseat and trunk are just this side of useless. The WRX and STi are both turbocharged, and as such, will cost more to insure. . . trust me on this. The Mazdaspeed Protege will be similar. . . . FI'd cars will command higher premiums from your insurance company.
Sooo. . . before you're set on any of these cars, you should ask yourself those questions I posed before you get into some big dissappointment.
FYI: I'm 32, insuring 2 cars (multi-vehicle discount) and have a perfect driving record. The STi alone still costs me $120 a month to insure. Easily triple that if you're under 21. . . easily double it if under 25. And just keep on adding to it if you have any marrs on your driving record.

Yeah guys I got the mazdaspeed...it's great couldn't be happier. It was just a great package you know, but I'm sure it has it's share of haters on this board. But Yukonart thanks for your concern, I'm 22, and I ended up with insurance of 250/mo. Not too bad. I'm a marine reservist, college student, and realtor here in las vegas, so I make enough to cover my 2 cars and my bike. I still have the civic, but I'm returning it to stock, so that my parents can use it if they feel they need to. My bike insurance is 30/mo and my civic is 150/mo, I know I'm an idiot for having all of it, but I'm preparing for a family soon, and my fiance uses the civic most of the time now, because before the mazda, she was driving an old accord. Thanks guys for your help though.
Hey by the way Yukonart, I'm hella jealous of that STi man, I wish I could have gotten one...but they want upwards of 35K here, and I figured, why break the bank. I need to get a bigger house this coming year, so I need to keep payments down...good thing my fiance helps with the bills jeeez...
PS--sorry for not posting pics yet, it's been raining in vegas the last couple of days...as soon as I get some sunny skies I'll take some...hopefully tomorrow.
