Here... Look... Civics with go power!
Who says it has to be in a straight line? I'd love to see some of those cars that are so fast at a traffic light try this.

me

Just take the gas pedal out of the equation... and these things can be fast. You guys just measure speed the wrong way. Forget straight line... its dumb anyway, it's all car and any idiot can put their right foot down. Do something where you actually have to know how to drive. And it's not how well you use the gas, but how well you use the whole car.

i live in so cali and there are a lot of draggers out here....i dont give an ish anymore....i learned too that our cars suck at goin fast in a straight line....i wanna try autox but i dont know where to go....anyone from 714 area that knows any events down here????
If the only thing you cared about was straight line acceleration and horsepower, theres a shitload of things you should have done differently, and your an idiot (no offense, but its true)
A) Not have bought a civic, at least not a new one, there isnt that much aftermarket support and we have bad acceleration, you should have known that before the purchase
B) not spent so much money on show mods, yeah your car looks damn good, but its still slow, and thats the only thing you care about
C) realize that the people who take four bangers up to like 300hp know a **** load about engines and have the money to do it all, and thats a **** load more impressive than v6/8 modifiers who just throw on bolt ons, yeah its easier but theres no fun in driving in a straight line really fast (haha, after a while at least)
Yeah thats all, sell all your **** to someone who wants it and will be proud of it, i know my cars slow as **** in a straight line, but around a corner, it can take out a lot of bigger and faster cars

I AGREE W/ THE CAR LOOKING GOOD. IT ALL DEPENDS WAT YOU WANT. YOU CAN MAKE CIVIC DO 9'S WITH ALOT OF MONEY AND RESOURCES, BUT FOR SHOW $1600 IS PRETTY CHEAP, CONSIDERING POEPLE WHO SPEND OVER THAT TO RESTORE AND STILL CAN'T TAKE YOU OUT. TAKE THE CIVIC FOR WAT ITS WORTH FOR $14000 IT SURE LOOKS BETTER THAN HALF THE CARS ITS PRICE RANGE LOOKS, **** BETTER THAN A NEON THAT FOR SURE!

I love my civic, but then I am not into going fast and if i was i have to say I would not have bought the car, Its not fast I am turning my car into a show car also going to compete in SPL comps. so, for me my car is great, for me CIVIC = Great platform for making a show car ... (lot of compition though)
Well, I traded my Civic in for my Corvette because I wanted a fast car. Now, I'm seriously considering trading it back in for a 2003 EX. Why? Because the faster and sportier a car is, the more issues that you need to worry about. On my vette, I have to worry about the short life of the brakes ($400 or so), gas ($125/month), the opti-spark (costs $1,700 if you don't do it yourself, it goes out every 60k or so), various leaks, etc. Those are just some of the things people don't think about. I can't list them all here. I didn't think about how amazing Honda really is until after it was gone. (100k mile tuneups?!??! Corvette is every 40k or so.) I long for 5k oil changes and filling up the tank at $15. Fast cars are a whole different game. The price of admission can be high, but the cost of staying in that game is even higher. Gots to pay to play, and if you have the money, all the more power to you man. Me, I'd rather find a compromise between more speed and more reliability. I am more comfortable paying a lesser gas bill, lesser insurance, and little maintenance than beating that retard when the light turns green.
yeah, im not buying a civic for the speed. more like 35mpg. i mean sure i'll throw some mods on it, like an intake, smoked tails and headlights, and window tint, but im not going for speed. if i was, i'd get a used 2k2 SE-R.

well one thing you can look at, is Hondas last a long *** time. You can put a couple hundred thousand miles on them and they still run great. So just think of the money you will save when all of your friends have to go out and but new cars cause they crapped out on them. Even though the are slow they do look really nice.

why do people just stuck on 1/4 mile straight line?? what is the point?? is it like a career? Does TV brodcast it like F1 race? or it is just something you do and people don't even care.
no one should even race with civic and expect it to perform like a race car, Honda company engineers will laugh if they know about this.
For straight line race, I highly suggest american cars. They are the cheapest with all best quality for straight line race. Please note, STRAIGHT LINE ONLY, so if you want to sacrifice all things people look in a car for straight line race, just get domestics.
To say "our cars suck", you must've never gone fast on twisty roads. Our cars have pretty good bang for the buck in my opinion. Turning hard while goin at 5-6k RPM's fun as heck, I don't care that it only has 100 whp.
You're lamenting the slowness of the car, but barely spent anything on making it go fast. Racing seats don't make you go faster. Rims will barely make a difference. A hot-air intake also doesn't do too much.

God I love autocross, Right now Im Second in my class (STS) regionally.
Seriously, the Import sceen is so stuck on 1/4 mile drag, they dont even see that their cars are oh so much better suited for track racing. FWD cars are not the way to go if you want a fast straight line car. the Weight transfer kills em'.
If you get in to autocross you'll love it. but dont be discuraged if you dont do well for your first year. Its not your car thats making you slow then, its YOU! Trust me, I get my *** handed to me by a guy in a bone Stock Tiberon.
(He's not in my class but he still out runs me), Of course he's been autocrossing for 15+ years.
I remeber something a friend that I race with said, " If I hadnt found Autocross, I'd still be drag racing, and wondering why I'm so slow." Now he races autocross, he does track days, and next year he plans on entering in to the West Coast Honda challenge with his D-Mod CRX. (He's also one of the fastest drivers we have)
Have fun, and Keep the Shiny side up.
If there's enough interest, maybe we could set up an AutoX section on the forum, maybe as a Sub-section on the Race Forum?

wow,
this autocross thing sound way cooler than stupid straight line ****.
isn't straight line race for people who don't really know how to drive? like me?
I would say those who goes to autocross are the real racers, but it sounds really more dangerous because turning is invoived.

I represent My 4DR Civic LX Sedan. I may not be too fast but my car is beautiful to me cause I've worked hard on it. What you need to do aznrj, is focus more on performance than on looks, because the VTec engine is a really good engine to work with and it has potential. You can practically obtain Civic parts at a local 7-11 or Vons down the street from your house. Parts are just that easy to find for the Vtec Engine and it is very easy to tune. I have the Non-Vtec LX engine and my realistic goal is a Beautiful 160-170HP daily driver than I can cruise around in and be proud of. Bottom Line, I own a Civic. I am a part of the Civic Nation. I represent my Civic to the fullest extent cause I am proud of it.

its no more dangous then drag racing.
For you to roll one of our cars, you'd have to be sliding side ways and either hit a curb (youd most likey shear off the suspension) or slid sideways in to sand or dirt. as far as hitting things on track, well theres really only 2 things to hit and one ushually runs away first. (Cones and Course workers) cone juce wipes off too.
The only thing youll have to get use to is wearing out tires and brake pads quicker then your neighbor.
Heres a decent video of autocross yes I know Real Media is evil, but its the best I could do on short notice.
Safty is the #1 concern for autocrossers, If its not safe, they won't race.

FIrst of all you didn't spend over 1600 dollars you only spent a little ove 600 bucks!!!!!!!!! the other money was spent on looks. you bought the cand probable new that its wasn't a fast car. if you want a fast car go get an Evo or an Impreza if you want fast, but if you want a good show car stick with the car you have.
