I'm curious about insurance, too.

I have a friend with a salvaged GS-R. I love the car, but it wasn't in the best condition. Radiator failed him and had to be replaced, speedo drops to 0 when he goes 80 or sometimes gets stuck at 80. The doors rattled LOUDLY when closed but that easily fixed by tightening them. One of the cylinders is misfiring causing his emissions to skyrocket. The stock cat somehow got modified or somethin... I dunno, but a high flow cat replaced it and actually reduced emissions compared to the stock one. The exterior and paint wasn't well maintained either. Last but not least, the shifter was cut and it came on 14s.

I hope your EM1 doesn't run into too many issues. It's not cheap having a salvaged car sometimes. Fixing the cylinder is not gonna be cheap.

Has the car been in a major accident, or does it have a salvage title from all the parts being ripped off by thieves?

If the thieves crashed it, then don't bother with the car. Once a car gets into a major accident, the whole car is basically wasted. May sound like a good deal, but by the time you're done fixing it its going to be the same price as a non-salvaged Si ...w/ more problems.

I would be careful with it, make sure you look it over really well.

Here in Canada there are a few provinces that can take a car with a bad title (ie - salvage) and put it in another name and then it gets a new clean title, then it is sold to some unsuspecting buyer.

Hope it helps

i'd be okay with a salvage title car as long as it hadn't been in an accident. i would amost do it, but i'm just worried if my insurance would cost more on a salvage title, or what the real problem is with a salvage title.

suprisingly, a good body shop should be able to return the car to as good/if not better condition then when it came from the factory. This depends greatly on the compitance of the body tech that does the work, but I konw at my dads shop, we have the capabilty to do frame pulls on a car and put each measuring point to with in +-3mm where factory statndards are +-5mm. It all depends on where it was fixed and unfortunaly there are 10 Crappy body shops for each compitant one, i.e. buy salvaged cars at your own risk.
