Rep Power: 0 around here at least you can get 1.9 percent financing on the new ones, which will probably save you a lot more money than buying used where the rate would be around five or six percent..the 1.9 might allow you to get more of a car for the money..

Depends how cheap, and how you are paying. I was paying cash, so financing didn't sway me either way...
I got an 01 LX auto for around 10k with 24k on it. I know the previous owner and the car was super clean, well maintained, and never raced (the wife drove the LX, they had a WRX to beat on the rest of the time).
At the time I bought this car, new LX autos (need an auto for $hitty traffic around here) were going for about 14.5k.
For the price difference, I bought an extended warranty on mine, and the biggest depreciation has already happened. The best part was that this car was bought new in early 02, so its now got warranty until 2-09... Lots of highway miles on the car.
Thats my story. The Civic wasn't my dream car, just something I needed (sort of a beater with good mileage). I didn't want to spend more than about 10k on a car, and this seemed like the best deal. Some good deals on new ones out there... nicer features too, if that is something that appeals to you. For me, its a Civic and I didn't really have anything to gain from a sunroof or alloy wheels.
Here though, new Civics go for 1000 over MSRP (WTF!). You can usually haggle it down, but that west coast mentality really hacks me off...
best of luck in your search.
