ATF change - Helps A LOT!!
So a few days ago I took the civic in for a 30K mile check-up - they changed the oil, did an ATF change, and inspected some other stuff. I figured it'd be a good idea, just to make sure everything's ok. Anyways I pick the car up and as I'm pulling out of the dealership onto the highway I immediately noticed the car had a lot more power. It just picked up and went. Before it would drag and take forever to get up to speed on the interstae, now I bouce between 80 and 90 MPH like it's nothing. The main thing is the acceleration. I think I'm gonna take it out tonight and see what I can do against some of the local riff-raff ...
Anyways, if you're thinking about doing this, I HIGHLY reccomend it. It cost me about $80, but definitely a good thing to do.

Well, if you keep reading, I said it was about $75-$80 ...
Heh heh, just teasing ya man. But definitely worth the money. I could have changed the oil and tranny fluid myself, but I was pretty happy to have them check everything and do a full inspection.

crap...i suppose i cannot read. heh. i've been debating whether or not to go in for 30k service. i think that i'd rather invest in a service manual and do the stuff myself. i don't plan on getting rid of the car in the near future, so dealer records/receipts aren't that important to me.

they have synthetic atf out now... that may be a better choice than just conventional fluids. hey, any lil bit helps when you have an auto.
I made an appointment for a minor maintnence service (my dealership sends me coupons), and I used it at 17000. It made a hell of a difference also. Plus they cleaned up a lot, kind of prepped my car for the spring and summer (this passed winter was horrible on my car). Smoother ride, they check the airconditioning system (I'm so relieved they did that, the weather's hot as hell now but my ac does really good), the gas mileage picked up too even.
Cost me freaking $200 though. The coupon was for 10% off a minor maintenance service.

You know what was awesome, the parts guy at my dealership gave me an old 2001 Civic Service manual. He didn't charge me the book price of like $100, he just GAVE it to me. I was sooooo pumped. I could've changed that stuff all myself, but I decided that it'd be a good idea to have them inspect everything - belts, timing, fluids, etc. I even have 3 bottles of ATF fluid that I was gonna use to do the change myself. Oh well .. maybe next time.
And yeah, they did the maintenance and never said anything about the mods. I only have an intake & an exhaust for engine mods.
All in all, I think it's a good deal for the service. I mean a regular oil change is easy to do yourself, but it's hard to inspect everything if you don't know what you're doing.

If you look at the manual it will tell you. You have to refill the transmission fluid three times to flush it. If you take it to a dealer or any oil change place it should run betwen $80 - $110. They tell me it will take a few minutes afther its put on a machine.

They had my car from 1:30 until about 4:30. It was already done when I got there, so it probably only takes about 2-3 hours.
Yeah, there actually is a filter, and the only way to change it is to completely drop the transmission plate underneath the car. It shows how to do it in the service manual, I can scan it if you would like to see a diagram of how to change it yourself.
