Rotors and Brake Pads... Again!
Yeah, the last time we couldn't install Phil's (TwilightX's) rotors and brake pads because the stupid little screws that hold the rotor to the hub were stuck on tight. Phil bought an impact screwdriver, so I think we'll be able to handle it now. Anyway, we're planning to do this on Tuesday towards the evening. Well, whenever Phil gets out of work...
If anyone wants to watch what's going on for the sake of being able to do this themselves at a later time, then I extend an invitation. If we finish early then I guess we can chill for a while. It all depends on how well it goes. Anyway, just letting you knwo what's going on.
Oh yeah, Phil! Bring your portable heater! It's going to be cold in that garage.

Gotcha - I'll bring the portable and the convection heater - the latter of the two heats up slowly, but there's no moving parts, so less noise = more music enjoyment!
Havok - down for a little distraction on a tuesday night? Aint nothing like rotors and heaters lol

Sounds good Keith. My hands are still grimey from last time, so I'm sure that we can expect some dirt under our fingernails. Joy!
Phil! Remember to bring that brake cleaner/degreaser/whatever too! I think windex will work, or just straight up amonia, but it's best to get something especially made for the job. We'll put a bucket under the brakes and spray them clean. Then wipe them down with paper towels. That did the trick for me when I installed my rotors and pads, so it should work for you.

Just a note about the cleaner: Ammonia will do the job, but I would HIGHLY suggest spending the $2 on a can of brake cleaner. Also, I would suggest NOT to touch them even after you spray them, incuding using a towel. The towel will have some grease from the manufacturing process which could hinder the brake pads' life. Spraying them down until they are saturated (sp?) is the recommended procedure and then they will dry automatically since it is a solvent based product....
Not that I disagree Grey, I'm just lending my $.02 from my past brake experiences.....
Oh, I'll be bringing a drill bit set just in case we need to end up drilling one of the screws out... Grey, do you have a caliper compressor to get the pads out?
Pill, also make sure you have a BRAND NEW, FULL bottle of brake fluid. Brake fluid breaks down as soon as it contacts air, and since you are redo-ing the entire things, we'll need to bleed the brakes and get all new fluids in there.... We don't want you to have spongy brakes, do we?? (get it, sponging, like Sponge Bob Squarepants... oh nevermind)... Brake fluid will only cost you like $4 for a big bottle........
If you guys think of anything else we may need, let me know today. I was planning on heading over after work, but if we need something, I can make a stop home first and pick it up......
Mmmmmm................... brake jobs................ Oh, and do you have corona's and lime??????

No, I don't have a caliper compressor. Last time the pads came out really easily. You don't really need one. Maybe for other cars, but not civics. Why is it called a caliper compressor anyway? Wouldn't you want a caliper relaxer?
About bleeding the brakes. I guess we can do that. It's just that it's not exactly a one night job. Well, at least for me it wouldn't be (one who's never bled brakes). I read this DIY and bleeding the brakes would take us about 2 hours. Check it out: Bleeding The Brakes This is for an NSX, but it applies to us as well. This means we need to get to the bleed valves for the back wheels. Yep, we'de need to remove those too! What they say about the type of brake fluid is right. You probably need a DOT3 or DOT4. That's what I need. Get a DOT4. Read about the differences here: Brake Fluids
If you really want to bleed the brakes then we can do it, but read those articles first and think of what we're getting ourselves into.
BTW, I got the lime.

Yeah, it was k3wl. New pads, new rotors, new brake fluid, and new windshield wipers to boot.
Corona's with lemon slices were the fuel. No lime, maybe next time. I liked the lemon though.

Yeah right I got some sleep. I couldn't sleep 'cause it was too hot. My parents turned up the heat when they got up (7:00AM). I also couldn't sleep 'cause of all the racket downstairs. I woke up at around 10:00AM. I went to sleep at around 4:30AM. 5:30 of sleep. Actually, I woke up earlier than 10:00AM. I was tossing and turning till 10:00AM though.

I asked around, and everyone agreed it was on the sidewall and would be a weak point to plug up...so even if you did the work, chances are that sucker wouldn't hold. Just as well I get a new tire brother...less chances!

Oh, okay... BTW, Keith forgot to put the dust cap on the front passenger side. I have it at my house. Stop by any time and we'll put it back on.

Hehe, actually... I put on all of the covers except for the one where you were still working. I couldn't put it on when you were still working on it, so I assumed that you would put it on. I assumed that you would put it on and you assumed that I would put it on. Therefore it was never put on. Oh well, communication problem.

lol you guys...
I drove in the city last night - let's just say that going easy on the breaks and the small streets of Boston filled with idiot drivers don't mix
I really want to mash down on them, but I wait patiently till I at least hit 100 miles...which should be on my commute home today
Oh, and driving back from Boston, I passed through China Town and caught a glimpse of two "ladies of the night" workin the corners lolol

lol, everyone keeps asking if I feel a diference already, and I keep on telling them, "No, I keep on engine breaking so much that I really don't get to feel how well the difference is yet"
Maybe I'm being too soft on them? I engine break all the way down to 1st before I hit the breaks lol

Ditto what Grey said..... Break them in slowly....... don't hit 100 miles and then slam on them, especially if you are in the middle of driving on the highway.... That would stink..........
