MA Inspection Sticker
Went in for my inspection today. Air horns didn't work yet, so I put on the stock horn. I also put the license plate on in front of my mesh on that front cavity of the Tsunami. I went to the closest place that I know of. A Meineke place. Passed with flying colors. Now all I need to do is take off that damned license plate and I'll be happy. Anyone have any problems with an inspection station yet? Anyone not pass?

In MA, we won't have to do emissions for a few years. All new cars have 4 years before they have to do emissions. Also, AWD cars only have to do the old tailpipe test instead of the dyno one they have now. You still have to do the safety tests though. There's no way around that.........
Anyone's opinion: Do you think that new cars should be exempt for 4 years????

I'm pretty sure it's not 4 years. I was reading a brochure when I was in the Meineke waiting room. They said that you have to get an emissions inspection every other year. So my 2001 will need an emissions inspection in 2003. A 2002 would need one in 2004.
Hey guys,
I think this is the way that it works.
odd numbered year cars get inspected on odd years.
even numbered year cars get inspected on even years.
example:
Year 2002
Grey has a 2k1 civic. he goes for an inspection sticker and no emitions test is needed
Kreepoort has a 2k2 civic. he goes for an inspection sticker and an emitions test is needed
Year 2003
Grey has a 2k1 civic. he goes for an inspection sticker and an emitions test is needed
Kreepoort has a 2k2 civic. he goes for an inspection sticker and no emitions test is needed
older cars (maybe 90 and back). I think have to get emitions tested no matter what.
I hope that helps

In the brochure it says cars older than '83 don't require an emissions test at all. Doesn't that sucks *****? They probably put out most of the polution too. Grr...
the older cars '83 and below dont have to pass emissions because they werent designed for it, it wasnt a concern, so i guess the state doesnt consider it "fair" to test them since none of them would pass, the old law said that any car 15 years old didnt have to pass emissions. my dealership (balise) said that i wouldnt have to do emissions until 2006 thats just my understanding
I got my testing notification in the mail and it says that certain new vehicles are exempt from testing for up to 4 years effective July1st 2002 " Motor vehicles whose model years are four years old and newer will be exempt from emissions inspection requirements for up to four years. The exemption begins w/model years 2000,2001,2002,2003. The model years exempt will change each Jan. w/ the newest model year added and the oldest of the 4 year model dropped." So since I have a 2000 and I just had emissions done last fall and my next testing date says 2003 I won't have to go until 2007 because my car is exempt from testing in the next 4 years. Even though it's a 2000 cuz I just had my test done.....so hope that helps......

Hmm... I hope this doesn't mean that manufacturer's will produce cars with crappy emissions and we don't get to find out about it till a long long time from when we buy the car. That would suck, huh?
