4th of July car show.........
For this weekend, the 4th of July, there is a HUGE car show in Worcester called the Summer Nationals. It is an annual event with over 4,000 cars (mainly all classics, but the imports are growing) at Greenhill Park. Here is what Friday will consist of:
9 AM until 5PM - going to park, walking around, checking out cars, vendors, burnout contests, etc...
5 to 10 - BBQ, fireworks, and small carnival, all in my town....
10 - ? Burnouts and flamethrowers at Downtown Worcester....
This was last years schedule:
8 A.M.- 7 P.M GREENHILL PARK OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
8 A.M.- 7 P.M SHUTTLE BUS RUNS FROM THE SOCCER FIELD TO THE SHOW ENTRANCE
9 A.M - 7 P.M SPEEDY’S OPEN AT GREENHILL PARK
10 A.M MEET GENE WINFIELD--THE FAMOUS CALIFORNIA CUSTOM CAR BUILDER--AT THE PARK
11 A.M-2 P.M CHECK WITH YOUR HOTEL FOR LUNCHEON SPECIALS
1 P.M.- 4 P.M MEET YOUR FAVORITE CARTOON CHARACTERS. THEY WILL BE ROAMING THE PARK.
2 P.M BURNOUT DISPLAY---IN THE PARK BURNOUT AREA---BRING YOUR CAMERA

7 P.M CHECK OUT THE NEW ENGLAND SUMMER NATIONALS BEER GARDEN AT THE CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL. GREAT FOOD AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
7 P.M FLAME THROWERS MEETING IN THE PARK SHOW OFFICE. INSPECTION AND SAFETY CHECK
7:30 P.M FLAME THROWER FLAME-OFF IN THE PARK
9 P.M LIGHT’EM UP AND BURN’EM OUT DISPLAY WITH PARADE OF FLAMES, NEONS, AND LOWRIDER DISPLAY IN THE “TUNNEL” DOWNTOWN BY THE CROWNE PLAZA
This is 2003's highlights:
NHRA Safety Inspections
Live Entertainment
50's Drive-In
Concerts
Swap Meet Area
Manufacturers Exhibits
Controlled Burn Outs
Flame Throwers
Low Riders
Hydraulics
Muffler Rap
Beauty Pagent
Bikini Contest (Info)
Neons
Awards
Giant Pinhead Panel Jam and Auction
T-Bucket reunion hosted by Total Performance
New Improved Park
Cruise the streets of Worcester with OPEN HEADERS and enjoy life!
I'll be doing the NHRA inspections...
Admission is $10, food is pretty expensive (just to warn you) so we usually pack sandwiches or get subs from subway the night before so we can eat it there. The burnouts downtown were free last year, but someone said that they may charge like $5 to get the amount of people down a little this year.
This is the weekend I live for all year, because all you see are cars running open headers, no exhaust, racing slicks for tires, and the cops don't bother you for the occasional burnout here or there....
I'm trying to get some plates for my Stang (It's not registered), but we'll see what I can do....
Anyone and everyone is invited to swing by and check it out. The show is going one Wednesday through Sunday, and I'll be going most days, so if Friday isn't convenient, there's always Saturday or the other days. The most cars will be there Friday and Saturday...
PM me if you need anything or directions. Their site (although not the best designed) is:
www.summernationals.com
I hope to see some of you guys and girls there!!!!

Hmm... This sounds pretty kick-***.
I'm not sure whether to do the Boston thing or this thing either? I was going to go to Boston to see the fireworks with Maggie, but this sounds pretty damned good too.
If I don't go check this event out on Friday with Maggie, then I'm pretty much down to go on Saturday by myself. I'll let you know Keith.
Phil... If we both don't end up going to this event on Friday, then want to meet up in Boston to go see the fireworks together? PM me.

Well Brandon, I'll be going friday and saturday. Meehow is coming saturday w/ us (right??) and Chris will be up tonight or tomorrow morning. Let me know what you decide. Boston is nice, but only for fireworks. Oh, and did I mention the 2 hours of traffic you'll sit in at Boston?!?!?!?! Let me know, I'm already seeing a ton of AWESOME cars driving around w/ open headers and huge superchargers sticking out of the hoods..... ARGGGG ARRGGGG ARGGGG (Tim Allen's voice)

2 hours? Pleeeze...park at my place, go to MIT, park using my sticker or open lots where the po po don't care for that night, sit in Killian Court (you know, where all the kids were walking up from in the scene right before Lambou's class in Good Will Hunting), and see the fireworks where it's less crowded - not nearly as many people go on the Cambridge-side, and you get the same view...so many ways around the general crowd by the esplanade...get to boston soon enough and there is no issue...but I digress...
We might be up for it Saturday, but I think the Mrs and I might want to stay local for the fireworks...there's still something about seeing them in Boston that's nice...But I'll let everyone know either way...

Yep, I'm going with you Sat.
I'll give you a call in a second or so... I had a blast in Boston BTW. Very tired and a ton of waiting, but the fireworks were awesome. Better than last year's IMO.

I was up in worcester for thursday night at school (Assumption Coll.) and after Wo's fireworks we hit up the burnouts. Let me just say, there were some sick car's doing some sick burnouts. I don't know how people were sittin next to the tunnel for hours watching these things without passin out from the smoke. There was a decent amount of people there considering we didnt show up till like 11. good time though, didnt see too many imports except a swett G35 coupe burnin out on main street.

Me, Keith, Sue (Keith's g/f), and Chris went. It was k3wl. I got a nice little tan on my arms. Almost a burn. I need to catch some more rays now on the rest of me. Anyway, it was k3wl. k - 3 - w - l The burnouts were nice. The cars were nice. Not 100% what I'm in to, but some of the totally custom rides were so so sweet. The bikes were nice too. I like newer cars, so the older domestics don't interest me that much. Although it's nice to see some history once in a while.
If I were to own an older model then it'de be a Charger. Of course.
