Okies... goto Hallett and haul butt!!!
If you live in Oklahoma, Arkansas or Missouri, you have no excuse as to why you haven't attended a High Speed Touring event out at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit!
Tired of the 1/4 mile? Want to see how your car does on a real track at real speeds? High Speed Touring is for you then.
What is HST?
Essentially, it's a controlled non-racing event where you drive the track at speed. There are limited passing zones and this is not racing, so anyone with a car and a helmet can attend. No need for race prepared cars, as even your stock car is welcome. Each event is broken into sessions of 15minutes to 20 depending on the event and a total of 5-7 sessions also depending on the event. After a short training session, they let you go right out and drive the track... pushing yourself and your car to it's limits.
What do I need to attend?
Any car, except for pickups, SUVs, minivans or station wagons are eligible. You will need a helmet (loaners available) and some comfortable lace up type shoes, tennis shoes or similar would be best. You also need your entry fee of $75 ($100 for special events) and if you aren't already a memeber of COMMA, you will need to join that as well for $35.
I've never done this before, is it safe?
Actually you are safer on the track than you are on the drive up or on city streets. You will be wearing a helmet, the track is lined with tire walls, and there are safety personel stationed thru-out the track.
How do I sign up?
It's easy, just visit the Hallett MRC website at Hallett MRC Website. From there you will find all of the forms you need to sign up for COMMA and to enter into an event.
How do I ready my car?
Make sure your tires have tread and are properly inflated, your lug nuts are tightened down. Check your oil, brakes, engine coolant, brake fluid, etc. Remove any loose items in your car, remove your subwoofer box, anything that adds extra weight or can fly around in the car when you are driving. When you get to the event your car will be tech inspected and you can remove any additional items at that time as well.
Do you have the guts?
You've spent the money for wheels and tires. You have your intake, header, exhaust, upgraded brakes, pullys, flywheels, short shifters and more. You've proved your car looks hot and can run a straight line... But don't you want more?
Hallett offers you one of the most technical drives you have ever had. It's ranked as a very technical course, and gives even the pros a good hard workout.
If you live in Oklahoma, Arkanasas or Missouri, you are within a reasonable drive to Hallett. And it's worth taking the time to attend an event. Trust me on this... I had my first event this last weekend and I CANNOT wait to get back for more!
The first time you fly thru a turn at 60+ and hear your car squeal with delight, you will know you are hooked.
Upcoming events:
- COMMA Challenge/HST August 24-25 (normal event $75 for 5 15 minute sessions)
- HST/Test & Tune September 14th (special event, $100 for seven 20 minute sessions)

You should at least come out and watch and ride around with someone. You are welcome to ride with me for a session.
If this event doesn't go, I'll definately be at the COMMA event running the weekend of Sept 24/25, most likely on that Saturday. This is a great time to see some real racing as well as get some HST track time.
I'll post here Friday when they let me know the event is going on.
Hope to see you and anyone else in the area there!

Yeah I'd like to ride with you maybe before i give it a shot that would be cool, i dunno about Sept. 14th cuz that's my birthday. How far is Hallet from OKC??? how much would it cost me to get in and watch/ride?? Let me know please.
I'm not sure about how far it is, as I've never driven from OKC to Hallett.
Cost for spectators is usually $5-10 depending on what racing events are going on at the time. I think it's only $5 for HST/Tune & Test days (like Sat the 14 of Sept).
FYI, heard of Oklahoma Speed? We are ak OK based car enthusiast group who have hangouts, group trips to Hallett and to Thunder Valley. Check out our site at www.ok-speed.com - can meet some folks from your area and hang who love driving fast! Most of the meetings are in and around Norman so you are pretty close.

Yeah OK Speed is dumb and full of drama i know alot of the people, most of us 7th gens in the city meet up i meet dude from norman and southside alot and also us northsiders meet too. I have a car club also. OK speed is alright but its mainly for computer nerds who don't live in the import scene daily like go cruise and race everynight, but thanx for the info i'd still like to come hang with ya. always good t meet new 7th gens/ imports.
I'm a computer geek too, but I do find their disorganization to be most frustrating.
I'd like to meet up with some other OK based 2k1/2k2 folks. Let me know when you guys are going to get together next and I will see whats up. Maybe you guys should all come out to Hallett and see how sweet it is to take the vic hard thru the corners.

You guys missed out on some great track lapping on one of the nations more technical tracks.
Don't forget that there is a tenative event scheduled for Sept 14th (Sat) and I hope to see some of you guys out there.

The Ok region SCCA combined with ARVG is putting on a 2 day event Oct 19-20. Schedule:
Sat. 30 min in the morning, 30 min in the afternoon. Same thing on Sunday.
Cost $100.
I will be there, but not in my Civic (wife might drive it though). Gonna really beat up the Jetta since it will have some fresh go fast goodies then.
There is another AutoX event next Sunday in Okc too. Yesterday turned out to be great, even with the rain. I ran with the slicks, but it was dry enough by that time.

Oh yeah. If you guys know Jeff (I think) with the S2000, he went into the tire barrier yesterday at Hallett. He came down to the autoX for a little while and you could see the black tire marks on the rear bumper. Didn't jack up his car though.
did i smell S2000?????
cool cool, yeah i may try to go on the 14th is my bday so i dunno, but i definetely want to come cruise with you one time down there. Keep me posted. You guys should meet with the OKC Metro group and hang with us every now and then too and also do DIY's with us.

God, I'm glad I missed that day at Hallett. Too many bad things happened.
But I and my little turbo will be out at Hallett this coming year.

I was just glad that Frisky was so nice about the whole thing and he was able to get it fixed up without hassles.
Remember kids, when you park in front of the main building at Hallett, don't double park behind others please. And if you are backing up, look very carefully before backing into an expensive Vette.
