Chicago area??

Hey guys, I'm from Florida and I will be visiting some friends in the Chicago area and I was wondering what areas I should stay away from so my car has a less chance of being messed with. The area I will be in is like a few minutes from Gary airport, well I believe thats the name of that airport. If I was to visit the malls or go downtown, should I be worrying about my car a lot? Any helpful info that you guys can give me will be appreciated, thanks.

Gary has been one of the top crime cities for like five years running.

No problem. Just say that you are the guest and it would be good hospitality for them to give you the garage.

Gary is not one place you would want to leave your car.
