00 Civic Si Intake and Exhaust install. What else do i need?
00 Civic Si Intake and Exhaust install. What else do i need?
Looking at installing a KN cold air intake and apexi WS2 exhaust on my civic si. Its the canadian SI model so it only puts out 127hp. Its my daily driver and im looking for a little more power. How much HP can i expect to gain with an intake/exhaust mod? Is it worth the ~$1000? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Keep in mind that's 127 rated HP at the crank, not the wheels. That means you're looking at about 100-110 hp to the wheels, less if you're running an auto tranny.
An intake/exhaust system will give you negligible power.. Probably a 5hp gain from all that.
Sucks, but it's the truth.
edit: I'm looking at a Honda Tuning Magazine article where they dyno a D16Y8 before and after bolt ons.
Baseline was 106whp
Weapon*R intake brought it to 109 (small gain from 4500-5500rpm, and again above 6000rpm, but otherwise tracked pretty steadily with the baseline)
GReddy EVO2 exhaust brought it to 112 (same gain from 4500-5500rpm, but a tad bit more high end power starting at about 5500)
I'd expect similar results from the K&N/WS2 setup
Verdict: worth it? prolly not. Is it still fun? sure.

That is sobering, anything else we can do for more hp?

It's deff not worth spending $1k on those parts for a d-series. especially if it's not putting out a lot of power. For $1k you should be able to find a decent LS swap and have a lot more power and more room to grow.
