Question Questoin about cold air intake system

is it a good idea to put an cold air intake system on my stock 2002 Honda LX coupe!??!.... one of my friends told me that since i have a stock engine....by putting an intake system may actually damage the engine in the low rev.. or at least wont get me any extra horsepower.. is that true...!??!?!!!??!??!!?!?

thanks for any replies

read the faq. its not a bad idea, but its also not that great of an idea either. intakes don't do a whole lot, but it definitely will not harm your car.

CAI is one of the best bolt ons you can do. Its allows the motor to breathe better. Just watch out for puddles when it rains!!!!

A CAI will not damage your engine unless it sucks up water which won't happen because you won't drive through lakes right? True, you might loose a bit of power in the low revs, but its worth the gains at higher rpms. If you always drive slow and never rev very high, then you will never notice the power gain. If you do, then you'll notice a difference and it will probably be worth it. Now you have to decide if you want a CAI or SRI. I have the K&N FIPK, an SRI with heat sheild... very nice, I recommend it. I'm biased of course because I haven't owned any other intakes.

unless you suck water through the filter, it won't damage your engine. you might lose a little low end torque, but get a little better gas mileage and a nicer sound when you rev

SRI is a Short Ram Intake, or warm air intake. the tubing isn't as long, and the filter sits in the engine compartment, as opposed to a cold air intake where the filter sits behind the bumper. basically the same thing. but with a SRI you don't have to worry about sucking water through the filter unless you drive through a lake. i believe they cost a little less than a CAI, but also don't quite give the same "power" gains.

so basically, CAI is good for higher RPM gains while an SRI is better for lower RPM gains? Am I getting this right? lol thanks anyway.

SRI's in my opinion arent really worth anything except for a deeper sound. they dont give any gains and in fact LOWER performance in regular stop and go driving cuz all they do is just suck in hot air faster than a stock intake. atleast a CAI will give a tiny boost and your engine can actually benefit from it.

Well;
Here is my two cents, either one is fine. You have to lower the air temp by ten degrees to gain one horse power. A cold air intake will have a slight change in air temp But no by much unless you have a direct air feed to the filter. Plus it can be a hassle to get the filter out for cleaning compared to the Short Ram intake. If you do have a cold air intake. Which, by the way looks cool as hell on the ride, get the AEM air bypass valve just in case of a high water / snow situations.

Punkingcivic Concept car. I have the rims now for the rest.
