Straight Piping..

Hey everyone, i have a 2002 1.7l, and i want to straight pipe it. (Yes, i am aware that it will sound like a complete ricer). So far i've just removed the muffler, and its definetley louder, but i feel like it could be better. If i removed the resonator that sits directly behind the flange for the muffler, will it be louder? or will it just drone? Thanks!
Please keep the hate to a minimum.. i don't care if you think it will sound awful.

Re: Straight Piping..

I was running with just the resonator for a while and it didn't sound bad. If you extend the pipe out so that it extends to the end of the bumper it doesn't drone as much. The sound was getting stuck under the rear bumper and making it drone. Yea is will be louder without the resonator and probably sound best if it was extended.

Re: Straight Piping..

LOUD? Megaphone instead of a muffler.....Exhaust shop chromies?

Kinda like my Hog with the baffles removed from the mufflers.
Those empty muffler shells become simple megaphones on the ends of the straight pipes.
OMFG it's loud when you are behind it.

Not mine:

Re: Straight Piping..

An extension pipe really makes a difference, helps the sound not get caught behind the bumper. I though about removing the resonator but was not planning on keeping the setup for very long. It was only temporary to clear the sway bar until I could get a muffler.
