2001 Civic Si.. Tuning?

I'm new to the Honda world, I used to be a nissan guy but recently bought a 2001 Si and fell in love. but of course.. 127 hp just isnt cutting it for me, and im not interested in swapping the engine until it blows (It has 115k) So any recommendations? I'm thinking of getting it to at least 170 hp, boosting the torque high is always nice.

Amd also.. whats the widest I can go for rims an tires? Ive been googling but no luck

Thanks in advance!

Re: 2001 Civic Si.. Tuning?

The widest you can go is pretty open ended, depends on offset and tire size. If would expect 9" with stock offsets would be possible if you roll the fenders.

170chp could be achieved with stage 2 cams and k-pro, 170whp would require boost.

Re: 2001 Civic Si.. Tuning?

I'm a fan of fat tires.. so 9" with the tires?

I read that the d17a2 is not that tunable unless turbo'd.. But I like NA power.

Is there a specific cam shaft and k-pro i should get?

And does changing the air intake and the whole exhaust system do anything big?

Roughly, 215/45 is equivalent to stock, 225/45 requires a slight roll, 235/45 is going to require pulling.

Stage 2 Brian Crower cam is the best option for power, stage 3 doesn't open up until you hit high rpms so kinda useless on the street. Read Hondata, it will tell you what specific ecus you can use to run k-pro on a d17.

You'll be hitting 145/150whp with stage 2, I/h/e, k-pro, and a couple hours on a dyno. You'd be hitting close to $3k and still have a slow car, not exactly ideal. Conversely, you can use a stage 1 cam, which doesn't require k-pro, valve springs, or tuning and puts you in the 125-130whp range.

Using the best parts available, maybe 10whp, but that's including using a cat delete header. Most people gain 3-5whp... big numbers eh?

These numbers are TERRIBLE! for 3000$ i might as well turbo or supercharge it. I guess a NA d17 is a dead dream
Know anything or turbo or super charging it? I cant find any kits.

and for the tires, im only work im interested in is putting the rims on and off.. so 8.5 will let me avoid anything for correct?

There's no supercharger available for the D17, it's quite the platform.

The BEST D17 turbo kits were made by Dezod, but they're no longer in production. Currently, you'd most likely be looking at a TSI or something custom. Still, only 200whp for $3-4k.

I'm a K-swap fan, personally. K20a2 can be done for $4-5k if you shop around for deals.

Re: 2001 Civic Si.. Tuning?

If my engine was crap I wouldn't have second thoughts on a swap.. but my engine so so clean with low k it would be a shame to swap it.

Is 200whp bad for 4$?

It all depends on your goals. Ultimately, if the $4k makes you love it that much more it's money well spent. There are certainly many people very happy with boosted D17s.

I see $4-5k for 160-170whp STOCK (big up in reliability) K20a2 as a much better purchase.

Re: 2001 Civic Si.. Tuning?

My goals... be faster haha, and to beat v6's I guess ill visit some turbo shops and see if they can do anything.

But if I were to go for a k20, would I just drop it in stock? or should I do more?

That's entirely your decision, but it's not difficult to make 450whp on a turbo K20.The stock internals limits are over 600whp.

Read the xProductionsx and more recent K-swap articles, they cover the process very well. The best way to go about one is to find someone parting out an RSX and buy everything you will need as a package deal.

Certain people will argue that the K24a2 is the best possible engine. Very similar engine with slightly higher displacement.

search utube for the civette.
then again, it's your wallet.
power without control is nothing but wasted gas, tires, trans and such.
the beauty in a small car is the efficiency, not raw power.

4x4 with engine on the trunk was already done in a scirocco, nothing new.
for a bugatti, you still missing 8 cylinders to get there, 8 total are a far cry.

F20 as in the s2000 or Accord engine?

Accord engine would be illegal, too old, plus it's not a great engine all around.

s2000 engine could be done, but it would require massive modification, including a RWD conversion. It's essentially a RWD variant of K-series engines. You could modify a k-series into something almost identical to an s2000 engine. An s2000 crankshaft can be put into a k-series block with a very minor (could be done with a dremel) modification, as one example to the similarity. K24 block, very very good rods, f20c crank and you would be able to rev well past 10k rpm.

I meant the s2000, forgot about the engine layout though. k series seems the best no matter what
