RWD 2JZ-powered Civic with S2000 front clip. Is it possible?
RWD 2JZ-powered Civic with S2000 front clip. Is it possible?
I have plans to build a 1997 Civic with a 2JZ out of a Lexus GS300, and add an S2000 front clip, and convert it to RWD. I've been looking for chassis specifications and dimensions, transmission tunnel and rear subframe dimensions, but found none... I plan to use MkIV Supra and/or Lexus SC300-400 parts and am prepared to do whatever it takes to get it done, so if you don't think it's possible, then don't post. Any information given would be of serious help and appreciation...

erm, do you already have the car? If so, measure?
I am afraid i never got across that detailed info so far.

I don't know, you could try to get yourself registered and order the vectored drawing here...

I already have the Civic, and the powertrain out of the Lexus, all I gotta do now is figure out how to get it in there... Then I wanna do a front end conversion off of an S2000... I just gotta get the correct information so I measure twice, cut once... and if it's not possible, then swap something else...

Your just making it much more difficult by going with a 2jz swap, because instead of using an entire s2000 front clip where everything bolts together ahead of the fire wall, you need to try and make the 2jz work with the civic unibody and then make the s2000 front end go on that.
At least this is a little more conservative than the guy who announced his plans to do a AWD turbo frank motor swap into a civic lol

well, official drawings are copyrighted, so hard to find them. I looked around too, could not find anything of use. Maybe use the service manual drawings and estimate the dimensions?

Anything is possible, given enough money and sweat and will and time and skill, after all.

I already have an idea of how large-scale this build will be, and I know, why not drop in a B18 or something, but the main reason I wanna do this specific build is cause no one has done it(yet), and I found the 2JZ powertrain for 700 bucks... I wonder if I have to lengthen the fenders and move the crossmember forward any to get the engine to fit properly... I realize now that the hardest part of this build will be tuning the suspension geometry to get the handling right...

you could do like the guys did in a scirocco - 2 engines, one in the trunk (2010 challenge GRM motorsports
)

if he is willing to cut the firewall, yes, it should be already in his plans.
the miata guy was still lucky, the steering is in front, but massive firewall work was required and cut out hood.

The beetle guy just installed a front frame from the donor car after a lot of custom fab.

That could be the way to go though. finding a way to install the donor frame. fitting the vic suspension in there does not seem much easy...

Not being negative or anything but I'm interested in seeing this progress. If you do plan on going ahead take a lot of pictures and post. It's usually not a good idea to pioneer a multi-manufacturer swap but all the power to ya if you have that kind of time and money on your hands... I sure as hell don't
Re: RWD 2JZ-powered Civic with S2000 front clip. Is it possible?
The beauty of this build is that I'm gonna do it on the cheap. I figured a high spring rate will be a must, just cause the 2JZ is a heavy engine. In regards to the steering setup, I don't know yet what I'm gonna do, probably have to custom fab something or adapt parts from the donor car. Right now, I haven't started any cutting, just decontruction and prep of the EJ8 chassis. I'm just doing research and drawing up prototype schematics. If I can find some free AutoCAD software, then I can build before I build.
Re: RWD 2JZ-powered Civic with S2000 front clip. Is it possible?
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a novice... I've done a little body and collision repair, and I've modified a few engines, but this idea I have came to me almost like an epiphany, and I'm not gonna let it go to waste... I got the resources, and like I said, I'm doing it on the cheap... I've seen a RWD S2000-powered Civic, all for 2,200 dollars, so I know it shouldn't cost that much more... I got the car, the powertrain and the tools, so all I got to do now is start cutting, fitting, and wait for my checks to start stacking...

Yeah, wonder what happened with the guy trying to do the CRV 4WD conversion too. I was hoping to see one of the crazy builds actually succeed, like the v12 miata or civette, cibaru
