Find a Heat shield?

Hey anyone know where i can get a heat shield for the exhaust manifold. Mine is looking very rusted and corroded. I am rust proofing all bolts and harnesses/clamps this weekend with rustproofing black paint; and I am also looking to pick up this heat shield. Should i just go to my local auto shop or is the a specific website for this?

If that doesn't work you can get a new one here: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ or http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp/catdisplay.jsp

FYI the bolts holding on my heat shield were the worst I've dealt with yet. I sprayed the bolts with WD40 every morning for a week and I still needed to buy a set of bolt removers to get the bottom one off. The end result was totally worth it though.

Re: Find a Heat shield?

i used blue engine enamel with white and clear coat and it looks great, imo. how ever since i used it it has burned, it still looks wayyyy nicer then rusted but if you paint it i'd use brake enamel instead since it has a higher heat rating then the engine enamel.

Re: Find a Heat shield?

Thanx a lot for the input, i am probably going to end up buying a new one.

Yea, i just bought a used Honda and the previous owner neglected the bolts and brackets/harnesses under the hood. I'm going to take them out individually and spray them with black rustproof paint, and buy replacements where needed. I will be buying a new heat shield(painting black) and chemical cleaner for the cover over the camshaft and cylinders. (want to make it look somewhat presentable)

Re: Find a Heat shield?

it might not have been neglect. i baught my 2003 in 2009 and it only had 60k on it. even though it was hardly used the stock bolts and electrical wiring where looking old, i think it's just the materials the car comes with.

I believe that if a person values their car they will maintain their car no matter how influential the piece is to the motor function of the vehicle. When you buy a car do some work; parts will rust etc. if you don't. It takes one or two afternoons to do some degree of rustproofing instead of having to deal with rusted bolts snapping and causing you or some1 else trouble down the road.
Just my two cents

I disagree with the insinuation that someone who does not take the time to rust proof/paint the peices of their motor does not value their car. Many people take a great deal of pride in their vehicles, but don't feel comfortable working on a car themselves or the tools necessary to do so; instead they rely on a mechanic or dealership to do the work for them. If i were one of those people i would certainly not want to pay honda to replace my heat shield because of a tiny bit of surface rust. People who don't keep up with their scheduled maintnence are a different story..

Re: Find a Heat shield?

Hey i understand where you are coming from MindBomber. The owner previous has done a reasonable job in maintaining this vehicle. I was just a bit frustrated with a majority of the bolts and harnesses under the hood. I have replaced quite a few of them due to the state of the rust.

As for the heat shield; it is almost completely rusted off. It is 2/3 intact the other 1/3 has rusted and flaked off over time, i'm assuming. There is no way to restore it, and that is why i need to pick up a new one.
