CAI and accidents....

Just wonderin...Since a CAI sits right behind the bumper, What if you get into a little accident and your bumper takes most of the damage, wouldnt the CAI push back up into the engine and do damage to your hood and your engine ? Opinions on this ?

Its posiable, but if you get into a bit of a fender bender you could just as easily put a ripple in the hood. But that shouldnt keep you from doing it, you could look at all modding the same way. Like why but new Projectors or Altezza 's when they could only be smashed out by nicking that post in the parking lot. See where I am going with this?

i guess =) cuz the way the CAI looks, it seems like any little accident wtih the front bumper will push it all in and do more damage to the engine bay

No. The piping would prolly bend. And if that dosent then it might damage part of the intake manifold, but not the engine.

no i dont think anything would be damaged other than the intake itself b/c it is all connected by rubber connectors and if you put enough force you can pull them apart, so i dont think anythign like the throttle body or hood would be damaged

sounds about right to me. It's not like you have a solid piece of steel welded to your engine with a CAI. It will bend or come apart before it hurts anything else in there. Besides, if you hit something hard enough to wrap that front bumper, you're gonna have quite a bit of damage to your car anyway...Enough to be over your insurance deductible, anyhow, so I wouldn't worry about it!

Well, I totalled my del sol from multiple front end high speed impacts (trees at 65mph) and the Iceman I had on it made it fine, minus the filter that disappeared. Though that was one was made of plastic and not metal. As for the AEM for our cars, the entire thing sits inside the subframe connectors in the engine compt., so if you get into an accident and it screws up your AEM, you are already into a few grand in frame damage so its the least of your worries. Peace

If you hit someone hard enough for the intake to damage the throttle body, then your car should be totaled anyway, if the airbag didn't kill you first. I think avoiding death and the like would be on my mind before a peice of pipe with plastic at the end of it.
