What the hell are these small "breathers"?
I was at Pep Boys today with my friend.. he was buying a new air filter.. Anyways, I saw these small filters called breathers or something. They where about $14 and no bigger than my fist. I'm just wondering where they go and what they do...? I think the package said made for honda.. but no specific year or model car. Can anyone help?

Was it labelled PCV (Positive CrankCase Ventilation)?
PCV valve serves to vent the excessive gas from your crankcase back into the intake so that it can be burnt/reburnt and processed by the catalytic converter before releasing to the atmosphere.
Some PCV filters are called breathers.

the small breather are for the one go in your engine..if you custom the intake you'll need one..
just go for a perfect fit like a aem or injen they have it there..the pipe right in to your engine.

I see many people putting those on the intake sensors. I guess that was the ECU thinks it's getting a ton of air and it put a ton of gas into the combustion chamber? I guess you get more power, but less gas is burned and your mileage suffers. That's what I theorize anyway. I really have no idea why the hell you'de do this other than the above assumed gains.

I already asked this question a while ago. What the one dude said is right...the hose that goes from the crankcase to the intake is so that the gasses can be reburnt until they are more emmisions friendly and all that serves to do is vent the crankcase and not send the gases to the intake. Also, some people use a catch can, but that's only for when they got FI or something.
