That's a dumb question!!! j/p

Intakes simply amplify the sound the motor makes when the throttle is opened. It's hard to describe in words, but go out in your car, turn off the stereo, and then floor it. That sound is what the motor sounds like muted. An intake limits the amount of muting. Basically, with an intake you hear the sound your car makes when accelerating hard, but at a louder volume. There are some very minor differences between intake/filter designs that have an effect on the sound they produce, but that should give you a basic idea.

I cant believe im posting in this, but whatever its been a long day....it just makes your engine sound throatier, like its on a bit of speed(not that it actually is because it does jack for performace :P) but i cant remember, guys said there was a way to know what it sounded like, something to do with the throttle body...

amplify the sound? Removing the resonator allow you to hear how loud the engine really is, nothing amplified.

An intake is a pipe with a filter on the end instead of an airbox with a filter in it. The noise one may hear from an intake is simply the sound of the air that is being sucked in from the motor from the intake manifold that bolts onto the head. If you want to find out what it sounds like with out spending the money on a "performance" intake just get a 10mm socket and remove the baffle that bolts on to the air box and drive your car around the block a few times. Or for that matter, just save the money you would spend on an intake and do just that, you would have a better filter setup keeping the stock filter anyway. If you want my opinion I think they sound stupid and give little to no performance benefits on a 7th gen Civic if its natually aspirated, but if you had some kind of power adder like a turbo or nitorus set up it my give you a couple extra ponies. Just my 2 cents though.

So you're saying the decibel level is the same with or without a resonator?

If a resonators purpose is to lower sounds levels, chances are when you remove it decibel levels would increase.
