Question Cold Air and Car wash

Well I went ahead and bought a CAI, and then thought of something......... You know how you cant hit puddles and whatnot so you dont submerdge the tip, well what about goin through a car wash? Is that out of the question? I normally dont neways, but in the cold season, it hurts to spend an hour cleanin it ouside!

Thanx
MIKE

your only worried about deep water with a CAI. The car wash shouldnt be deep enough to cause any harm.

^^^ Not always true... Puddles have cause drastic damage to engines depending on how much water makes it into the engine...

But regardless, you are safe in a car-wash, but you should do it yourself...

You realize that you have to be in like 1 foot of standing water with the filter completely submerged to hydolock it permanently, most ppl kinda minorly hydrolock it and it usually dry out =) You'll be ok in the car wash =)

yea you are cool man. I had a Injen CAI and you could let the engine run and spray water at the bumper where the intake filter sits and be fine. I went through car washes plenty of times and was fine.

Just be careful... I lost an engine to hydrolock, and the puddle wasn't deep at all.

Just avoid spraying water directly at the filter. Mist won't hurt anything.

and dont be at full throttle when you hit a puddle...and dont be some cool *** ricer and rev up when you're in the car wash...cuz your throttle body will open up causing more air to come in which in turn...possilby more chance of water making it in.

A small amount of water won't hurt anything. Large amounts, (greater than combustion chamber volume at TDC) will cause issues.

CAI's are a bitch but if you have the heat filter shield and the water seperator then water shouldn't be too much of a problem. Otherwise u better get ready to ur intake system out. BTW how well does the AEM CAI bypass valve work???

Thats kind of funny to hydrolock at the car wash

actually in my own personal experience our engine can handle water with no problem. I drove through a flooded area a yr ago and drove through over 2 feet of water at 5 mph and sucked it all in my engine. I had the injen CAI at the time. My car died and wouldnt start. I thought I hydrolocked it, but I took it to a shop and they just sucked the water out of the cylinders and drained the oil and tranny fluid several times and the car ran again. The check engine came on a week later for the TPS sensor, but that was replaced and everything has been fine since. But I guess I Was lucky.
