I am about to buy a civic, 2002 2 door ex, 30k on it, its been sittin on the lot for 4 months and we took it for a test drive n it ran smooth. one problem, the guy who sold it to the dealership put an intake on it, it is just the tube, NO FILTER, its not even a name brand or anything, it looks like an AEM short ram but isnt. could this screw the engine up, is the car worth buying? if i get it, i am going to put a filter on it right away, and eventually either buy an AEM short ram or just repaint the tube thats on there now.
No filter, could be a risk...if any small pebbles, sand or other road debris made it into that tube and into throttle body you could have a problem on your hands....
I dont know if anyone on here has experienced this or has anything else to add?

yea, it only has 20,000 miles on it, girl driven, but the thing im thinkin about is that its just a short ram intake, not cold, so its jus been suckin up hot air, n does alot of dirt really get under the hood right next to the head of the enginie??

you have to rip apart the block (takes all day if you know what you're doing) and check the pistons and other internals for damage. It's not worth it at all. You shouldn't even be considering it unless you plan on buying a new engine soon.
just take the filter from the throttle body and look at the throttle body and see what kind of dirt has built up (and yes to make sure there is not a mouse family). If there is not much or none buy it and put a filter on, put in some sea foam, and change the oil ASAP. I think that it is fine there are alot of cars that run open, individual throttle bodies. They just have to change their oil alot.

You could be the biggest retard I have ever seen if you buy that car. I can't even believe the dealer would even buy that car back with no filter. The only way you could get away with no filter is if it is a race car and it is only driven on the track.

--what's the price?
--does it have warranty from the dealership?
--compare prices with the ones who had OEM on...
--ask yourself the "WHAT IF" questions... but to me personally i wouldn't get it... coz you don't know who exactly and how they used that car... even it's an SRI don't mean the dirt will only be underneath the car and not jump to and in the pipe
... just my .05

... just my .05 I really don't understand what the problem is like I said before there are the aftermarket individual throttle bodies that are wide open. Guys run those for years and have no problem at all they just change their oil alot more.
don't buy it if it had a intake with no filter what else did they **** up on it and why are they seliin it with 30kon it a 2002 something sounds fishing

The throttle body will be dirty regardless. Mine was and I always use a filter. The problem is what happened to the engine internals that got sandblasted by the dirt. I can't convince you not to get it, so just check ebay they have replacement engines for $600 and maybe $400 more for install. So just save up for that engine swap later you'll need it.
i agree with bgoetz. you shouldn't have that many problems just follow the steps listed by the member i stated. This is because it is a short ram, this makes the chances of "dirt" getting into the engine smaller. good luck
