time to change oil filter, recommendations?
i been using honda genuwine oil filters for my civic ex and wanted to take a step further with something else better (if their is a better).
i really dont know how to read an oil filter label or know how it works specifically, so i want hear what other ppls suggestions/recommendations are for an oil filter for my 2003 honda civic ex auto if it matters. i live in california and lately, its been pretty sunny but hard rain and cold climate will eventually occur. my driving style is more sprint type meaning, i drive little fast and hard but no redlining it. just want to get from point a to b quickly. so if you guys can, what oil filter would you recommend and why?
price is no prob for me, i always choose quality parts for my new car..
oh yeah, i use mobil 1 5w-30 fully syn. motor oil if it matters too!

General consensus around here is to stay with OEM Honda for overall quality and reliability. There are complaints about FRAM being unreliable or something, but I have no personal experience there. I'm kinda tempted to try HAMP (Honda aftermarket), just for the hell of it.

Rep Power: 424 No one really knows. People now think Honda Filters are being made by Fram and they're the same **** paper ones as the Frams. Others disagree. Who knows. All I know is I spend $6.50 on the Bosch ones and I've never had a problem.

Rep Power: 283 I changed to K&N about 3 months ago, I changed the filter today I have been using Mobil 1 Syntetic since. Seems to be working no leaks.
oil filters....make sure that you don't have a double gasket in there and make sure to put clean oil at the gasket and make sure its tight......
no performance in it though but on k&n as stated earlier...it has a valve that retains the oil pressure when you turn the engine off...thus reducing the chances of dry starts.....an you may want a filter that does not bust at 100psi(but thats just on the safe side)...
basically any oil filter will do as long as its the right one for your car......

Rep Power: 276 i dont know but i wouldnt trust honda brand on everything... they have only like 2 sizes of oil filters. im guessing the bigger ones are more larger vehicles (suv/truck) while the smaller filter size was more compacts. and im pretty sure the filter that us civics use werent specifically made based on the 7thgen. i was hoping mobil 1, k&n, or fram would prob make a better oil filter than honda since alot of aftermarket companies has made better parts for your honda than HONDA themselves. im tired of paying the $7 for an oil filter after every oil change... i want an oil filter that will last like 8k miles or every other oil change (whichever comes first) 
but yeah, i decided to stick with honda oil filters.
but heres another question: can i use 1 honda oil filter every other oil change? why or why not?
my father said oil filters arent that neccesary and the one that came with the car will last 30k miles =\ he has an toyota 4runner and never changed his first oil filter on that car until it was time for 30k tune-up service . his car has been running perfectly fine ever since and its over 100k miles now. im guessing he changed the filter prob like 4-6 times total thruout the entire time he had his 4runner.

Use the OEM Honda S2000 Oil filter. ONLY the S2000 filter.
That valve you are referring to is called the "Anti Drain-back Valve" and most new filters have them, but some are of poor quality and leak. Most of the higher quality filters (S2k, KN, Mobil, Bosch, Napa Gold, etc) will have a silicone ADBV and are generally more desireable than something like a fram.

honda filter, mobil 1 ow-20 oil. got that recomendation from Chris Reel. He did the oil development for jackson racing. he also works with honda motorcycles publication writing maintanance articles and overseeing environmental issues. the guy knows his stuff. You can take your oil to autozone or pepboys for recycling, its pretty cool, they turn it into fuel for ships.

Not quite. They may have a thicker case and flange and therefore weigh more. Doesn't have anything to do with how much paper is in it.

How about in Canada? There is no pep boys...
Should I just dump on Canada soil?
a lot of places take it for free. I take mine to Advance Auto. I've only changed my oil once, and I put in a k&n filter just for the hell of it. According to the Honda manual, you only have to change the filter every 10k, while the oil is 5k; so once every other oil change. Im going to run about 7-8k with the synthetic I have now, though, so I'll just do mine every oil change.
I think what filter you get doesnt really matter. I'm sure there are boosted civics running the oem filter with no problems, but if you feel better getting a different one, the price is negligable enough for it not to matter. That's my $0.02

Rep Power: 338 Basically, places that sell a big amount of motor oil will take back the used oil... I bring mine to autozone b/c it's closest.
I use Penzoil oil and Penzoil PZ-33 oil filters.... I have used others, dont really see any difference.
