oil?

Hey,
I am relatively new to Honda's, so I need advice.
It is almost time for my '04 Civic's first oil change. It takes 5w20 oil.
What brand do you guys recommend and where can I get it?

-Robert

I would get a straight 30 weight oil. This kind of oil is used in race engines. It doesnt break down like a multi-grade oil. The only reason there is a multi-grade oil is because the government wanted the car manufacurers to use this for better fuel economy. I was told this by a local oil distributor. He races and sponsors lots of cars and they all run straight weight. This is what I use. Take this info anyway you want.

mark my word...

get MOBIL 1 0W20, it's the best for our car....(erh...in term of $$)

the real term for best? there are lots....the purple thingie is good.

but it's gonna cost ya $70 for every oil change...expensive, ya?

5W30 is OK, but it's for temporary use...

M1 0W20 is applicable for 5W20 (our civic)....hence, it's the best choice..

if you decide to use FRAM filter....i suggest for you to go to Wal-Mart for oil change...

depends on your local wal-mart....mine cost $30..

that is:
Oil change with 5 quarts of Synthetic Oil, you can choose whatever on the shelves...
>>they will definitely match the amount of oil needed on our vics..

FRAM oil filter...

15 points regular inspections.....u know, lights, wiper, oil this, oil that...blabla...

and of coarse, the labor....

good deal?

Oh yeah, don't forget to tell the clerk...NOT to overfill our engine....sometimes, they do that.
and it sucks. don't forget this one.

consider rotating your tires too! therefore, you can maintain your tires life...
anyway, what's your tires? still on stock? FireStone FR690?

if it's true, just dump that freaking tires.....it might leads you to an accident..
FR690 --> the WORST tires EVER. LOWEST rank in tirerack.com

can you believe it? it's our stock tires......OMG.

And don't use 5w30 or 10w30 5w20 really is best for our engines.Especially if you liek in colder climates.I tried 5w30 for a while and my gas mileage went down from the thicker oil.And plus the royal purple has an additive that coats the metal so when you do a cold start there is still luberication on the metal unlike regular oils.Kind of like when they use teflon coating on metal parts.Take my advice as you will, but ive tried alot of stuff and so far this stuff has worked the best. Its your car and if your like me you'll treat it like its worth a million bucks.

Yeah no ****, i bought some Si rims lately and he said they came with new tires. I was hyped that i didnt have to buy tires, but when i saw them, my heart just sank, those tires are f'n garbage. I remember off the lot those were crap, and in the rain (since it rained this weekend) i dont even know why they manufacture those tires anymore.

wow your mileage is whacked. All I have is,

Royal Purple 5w20 Oil
Royal Purple Purple Ice Super Coolant
K&N High Flow Stock Filter
And I use 87 Octane Shell gas

Other than that everything is stock. But I wouldnt go with 0w20 oil,I mean if you do any hard driving that oil might just be too thin.Trust me just try Royal purple 5w20.Plus the purple is teh only oil I know of with the additive that keeps the oil bonded to the metal for good cold starts.

that's the thing, dude..

I can't change my own oil...so i'm gonna change my oil in Wal-Mart....using M1 0W-20..

i think it's okay...i heard and read a lot of review of dudes using em...and it's nice...

yo, what is super coolant? and additive for your oil?

im also using a K&N replacement air filter...

and Mobil 87 octane gas....

did you change ur spark plugs? i heard from few dudes that these stock plugs might be the culprit of your low gas mileage....like mine....

damn, im prayin'.....

hoping that i can get 400+ after oil change and spark plugs change..

No I still have stock spark plugs. And that super coolant is a radiator additive.I did a review on it.Brought my engine temp way down. And only $10 for 3 times worht of radiator flushes.

http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...ght=Purple+Ice

and why can't you change your own oil? It's super easy and you get a good feeling out of working on your car yourself?

I have an auto tranny So I need to stick with Honda ATF.But yeah I heard teh Purple Tranny fluid is great for manual tranny's.I would get their ATF stuff,it's just that our auto tranny are built to real tight tolerances and some people have problems when they don't use Honda fluid.BTW I changed my tranny fluid at 25,000 miles and it made a huge difference, and I found a bunch of metal shavings on the magnet. So It's a good idea to get that stuff out quickly.

All you need to change your own oil is a $5 oil filter wrench from walmart (you can use you hand half the time) and a Socket wrench with a 16mm (I think) socket. That all you need really.I'm telling you it's about the easiest thing in the world to do,and a very good thing to learn.I mean if your really that uncomfortable just keep letting someone do it for for.But if you ever get the chance try it your self or have someone help you.
