diff between engines

I just need help telling the difference between a 98 ex coupe engine and a gen. 7 civic ex engine. I know the displacement is different, but i need more specifics. I already tried to do a search, but nothing really came up. would aftermarket parts (boltons mostly) that fit for the 6th gen civic ex's fit ex's from the 7th generation? I'm a new import guy, coming from a 2001 cougar v6, and i need help choosing between the two ex's. I'd appreciate an help in advance.

I'm pretty sure that bolt on for 6th gen civics will not fit on 7th gens. There's plenty of 7th gen bolt ons available so you wouldn't want to even try really...I'd go for the 7th gen as it is newer, especially Si if you've got the cash

There are more suspension parts for older models and power mods too. The newer cars are great and there is a fair amount of bolt ons for it but not as much as older models.

Basically no. I'm pretty sure D16 parts won't fit on a D17.

Why would you want to put 6th gen parts on a 7th gen?? There is no reason to do that if they already make bolt ons for a 7th gen right? Give it time, whatever parts that you don't see out for 7th gens now you will see them in time. I would take the 7th gen anyways. Faster. I was beating 6th gen EX' with I/E when I was STOCK.

haha ok thanks, i'm new to the honda scene, and i know that the aftermarket is fairly larger for the 6th gens as opposed to the new generation, so i was concerned for availability of aftermarket parts. But I seem to be very wrong. Is there a one stop shop for all 7th gen civic parts? just to sorta get started.

The only aftermarket part that will fit both the 6th and 7th gen is the flywheel/clutch. Other than that the 2 engines are totally different.

i was just reading the post about cam regrinds and that seems to be really the only option cam wise, but there seem to be an infinite amount of cams fro the b series and the d16. It seems to me that the aftermarket isn't at full bloom yet. I'm still thinkin of going with the 6th gens.

Most internals are in the works for the 7th gen. The 6th gen civic has had a longer time of being out, so thats why more internal/external parts are available. SF, DH-Racing, and others are working hard to produce interal/external and other high performance engine mods.

Well the 7thGen hasn't been out as long as the 6th gen, so of course you're gonna find more parts for it. Some parts for the 7thGen can be found in www.dh-racing.com and a few other places here and there. But it's a difficult choice to make.... I went with my 7thGen and I'm pretty happy with it, though sometimes I wish I had just stuck to a 6thGen simply because all the aftermarket support is already there and I don't have to wait for anything to be developed.

Theres alot of diff between the engines the 6th gen has spark plug wires and a distributor and the 7thgen is distributor less . The diplacment is diff also . theres plenty more but to answer you question no no parts will fit except the clutch which someone already said . everything is diff the throttle body sits sideways versus ours which faces up so no intakes will work . the suspension is diff and the pipe bends are diff so no cat back will work .

Get the 98 ex, then you can do a b16 swap and have an si. For cheeper, than a 9000 dollar 2001 ex. theres a lot of bolt ons for that.

Great advice. Too bad you're about a year and a half late with it.
