Why do we modify?
Why do we modify?
I was just thinking about this. My last car, a WT 95 z28. I owned it for over 4 years, and in that time, the only thing I did to it was put flowmasters w/ those big **** truck tips out the back (what was I thinking?) A K&N FIPK, a B&M Ripper shifter, and a sound system. Mind you that was over a 4 year period.
Now fast foward to the present. I've only had my Civy since Sept, but I've already Tinted the windows, added AEM CAI, Neuspeed STB, DIY Paint interior trim / debage / clear headlights / painted calipars, and put all my stereo plus more into it. And wheels and lower tie bar are on order.
I find it amusing how much I've already done to my car. So I guess my question is this: why do we modify are cars so extensively? Just to be diff? Because its cheap? Because its the fad right now? I guess my reason (no flames please), is I had to make it look a little nicer than the econ box that it is. I just couldn't stand the stock look of it. But on my z28 I was satisfied w/ pretty much everything how it came from the factory.

I modify everything. My computer is heavily modified too. I guess I like to show off the final product too, but I think more than anything I enjoy learning someything new. Right now cars are on my mind. More precisely imports, more precisely my first car. The 2001 Honda Civic Coupe! After I finish off the Civic I think I'll go on to other things. I'm really interested in robotics, ever watch BattleBots, or Robotica, or Robot Wars? Anyway, that kind of mentality is healthy for you I think. Even if I had somethign like a Viper I'de still want to modify it. Take it beyond it's current limits. Innovation baby! That's what it's about, from that you gain respect too.
i just remember starting m car and only wanting rims exhaust and a drop on it. right now i have rims, exhaust, spoiler, bc kit, great system, some interior painting, cai, and coilovers on their way. its addictive as to how nice it comes out looking and ill be honest, i like getting the looks from drivers and compliments from the people i talk to. plus its so much fun doing everything myself, ive learned a lot since i got my car and im still 17.
Why do we modify our cars? Thats kind of like asking, "Why does a dog lick his nuts?". The obvious answer is, because he can.
Nah, I mod my Civic to make her my own. Turn it from a "grocery getter", into a nice, well handling, awesome sounding, fun to drive machine.

i just like to be different. i think so people are getting use to it and it's becoming a little common but that all depends on where ou live.
A year ago I felt that my life was at its all time low and I thought that buy a nice car would change that. I really wanted a sports car but I wasnt able to buy one because I dont really have a lot of money. So I ended up buying a civic and decided to mod it up and try to make it something it is not. When I was growing up my parents didnt really pay a lot of attention to me so I wasnt really outgoing nor were my social skills that good. This has caused me to have few friends at school. Many of you still in highschool probably know that kids can be really mean, many of the students made fun of me and even some of the teachers and I thought my car could help me become more popular and able to hang with the cooler kids in school. Also I dont know what it is but I was 17 and havent ever had a girlfriend. As we all know chicks dig nice cars so i thought having a nice car would help me out in that area of my life. I dont want to die a virgin.
A year later and sadly I have to report that things havent really changed. It is hard to stand out where I live with a modded car, there is one on every corner of the street. No matter what there is always someone with a wilder body kit, bigger exhaust or more neons, it is hard seeking individuality. I have became a little closer with friends at school, we race but I always lose with my civic. Sometimes they tell me to go cruising with them but they always leave the spot where they meet at before I can get there. I dont know if it is just me or not but I think there are alot of people that point and laugh at my car on the street and I still do not have a girlfriend.
Thank you for reading my post, it was really hard for me to type this up.
