real quick question
my friend has an 04 ex cpe but she got it in auto, she doesn't know jack about cars so she asked me to help her hook it up for her, for intake all i see that aem makes is cai for 5sp only, is that really a problem? i mean why wouldn't a cai work on auto if it works on manual? she doesn't want a sri definately a cai so i guess if the aem cai doesn't work i should get her an injen?

I heard aem cai does fit on auto but why not just get injen cai that are made for autos. Wont make any differences anyway. Aem cai's mounting location is different than injen cai auto's.
Yup, I think the AEM CAI does fit but just get an Injen cuz it is made specifically for an auto.
The AEM CAI doesn't fit cuz of the transmition positioned. So I've heard. But with a little mod anything's possible.

Or you could have her get the K&N FIPK II, cuz it's the best intake there is
(IMO) Look at that lack of low end loss!
K&N should pay me for how much I pimp this dyno chart on these forums.

But back to the question, I think it works like this:
AEM CAI - only fits manual
Injen CAI - they make two different models; one for auto and one for manual.
K&N FIPK is a SRI but it has a heatshield and will fit manual or auto.

Then tell that hooka to do her own damn research and stop asking for your help.
While were on the topic of research...that search button up there works wonders with questions that have been asked before.
It's not ALL about air temp. Thier is sooo much more to it than that. Flow patterns, Stack velocity, laminar flow etc etc... Although for an auto civic...you're looking at going slow with stock...compared to ....well....going slow with an intake.

Well , no one has injen cai or aem cai on 04 civics yet.. I am not sure if mounting point it still same as 01-03. Since 04 has new bumper, headlights, fenders etc. Minor changes but mounting point for cold air intakes might be diffrent..Just a thought. So, be safe and buy SRI.

i was tellin her no matter what she gets it will improve airflow but her bf who thinks he knows all about cars convinced her not to get a sri cause in the summer when its really hot in the engine bay it will do worse for her car cause its bringin it lots of hot air from there. i have an aem sri, at times i think i woulda liked the cai better but i'll just tell her to go with the injen or the fipk2

FIPK II has heat shield = no hot air
Just tell her to get that one.

Thats a jack move di(khead. Keep it in the for sale forum. Or at least in forums where people are looking for a header. Your lucky I'm not a Mod.
On to Blurs questions. Yes even with a heat shield hot air can get into the intake. But AGAIN I stress that there are more important things than just the air temp. People read magazines and think ...I need cold air...cold air has more oxygen so it will have more power. And this is true....cold air does give more power. But you also need to worry about air flow air speed and air velocity. Think of this...if I ran a garden hose from the intake to the trunk where I put ice to super chill the air..I would be getting seriously cold air. But do you think I would get more power? No because the engine would be chocking for air. Granted my example is a little extreme but you get the idea. Why do you think some intakes gain more power than others? I mean they are getting air from the bottom of the car. It's due to the variables I mentioned before (and probably a few I didn't mention) Do some google searches on short ram vs cai. There are some good articles out there. And remember....sport compact car is not a technical manual.
