Blow Off Valve and Cam Gears
Blow Off Valve and Cam Gears
I have a 2002 Civic Ex and found AEM Cam Gears online to buy. My brother has a 2002 GTI and he wanted to buy an HKS Blow-off Valve. Now here is the problem. Our father and mother believe that this is a waste of money and are stuck to believe that it will not return revenue thus wasting money. However, we say that it inceases performance, which they do and are our passions to modify them to the full extent that our income provides. We tried arguin with them and made some very valid points. They dont believe mechanics know what they are ding and that they will mess it up. I disproved this by showin them a recent import tuner magazine with an article on the shop that will operate on my vehicle and my brothers, Car Version 2. Please, does anyone have any advice? They want to know if the Gears void the warranty as well as the BOV. Please give me some information to convince them into lettin us buy these parts and future parts. This is alot to ask, but we appreciate any positive efforts. Thanks
just be strait up with them and tell them youre doing what you want and even if they dont let you order it tell them youll end up getting it anyway so whats the point. i mean its your money, you do what you like with it. but i wouldnt really suggest cam gears as your first civic mod. get like and intake or something. intakes are like the free bird of starting mods.
Well wust weird bout that is that I havean intake, exhaust, headers and tailights but they juss dont like tha idea on gears, maybe they are scared of something it will do because it alters tha engine mechanics. I have already tried sayin that I can do wutever I want and thats its my money, but they said its their car because they bought it but gave it to me. They dont use it in anyway and its payed for, I take care of it with all tha effort I can.
Magnusson-Moss act look it up... simply put it says no aftermarket parts can void your warranty unless the dealer can prove it caused a defect in the vehicle...if the dealer tries to tell you otherwise sue their ***

You don't want to put a BOV on a GTi anyways. They use a DV (diverter valve) system to put the blowoff back into the intake, and it doesn't work the same way. A common upgrade is to use the DV from an Audi TT.

Tell them that you would rather spend your money modifying your car or fixing it up instead of spending it on the streets or drugs and acohol

at first i was like, hey wait u dont need a bov, then i read the post. but yeah i would consider a bov to be a loud intake, as for cam gears i can understand where you parents would be upset, as i am positive it would void your warranty

the BOV (or recirulation valve) will do nothing more than the stock one. It will just be louder and look nicer.
As for the cam gears, make sure you install them correctly.

just buy it with ur own money, with a money order or sumthin, have it shipped to a friends house, and the install it without ur parents knowing. unless its a huge difference in the sound, like getting intake or exhaust, im sure they wont notice. thats wut me and my brother do
Ok thanks guys for all of the suggesstions. My brother had already taken out tha money to buy it and they didnt know but we will order it anyways. As for my Cam Gears, I am starting to contemplate purchasing them at this point and will wait until I have enough money to buy a new Camshaft and some fuel components to produce better output. Now I think I will work on custom piping to the HKS and a new cat.

you would only need 1 gear because its a SOHC, save your money for something else.. I have the AEM cam gear and I dont think it really did a whole lot except **** me off during the installation!
