E-bay strut bars?

Ok, I've seen stuff ranging from this whole kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Compl...ht_3392wt_1167

To this 4 piece kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-89...ht_5374wt_1167

To this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DC-SP...ht_4101wt_1167

To this weird stuff:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Civic...ht_3951wt_1167

You get the point. I know someone just posted about this, but I didn't want to hijack their thread, so...
What's the deal? I know that these are supposed to increase rigidity to the frame of the vehicle, but do the less expensive ones (that aren't welded together) even do anything besides waste your money? And do you have to install the whole kit to reap the benefits, or does the situation improve a little with each bar that you install? And would someone who isn't doing any drag racing or trying to take a corner at 75 mph even benefit at all?

Thanks for the help. I love my civic, but I don't love it enough to waste money on buying stupid useless crap for it.

Re: E-bay strut bars?

that was me. Thanks for not cluttering that reference thread with questions, BTW
DC sports is the best among them.
Should give better rigidity than the others -they all do not seem the bad tower hanger type, though, but do not do too well against the sturdy DC or neuspeed (not sure neuspeed makes for your year, though).

I can't really afford the 'DC sports' level of stuff, so... the less expensive ones are ok, or no? Does it have to have the welded construction to do anything or are the screw together ones just fine?

Re: E-bay strut bars?

cheap ones are used as towel hangers...
they don't do much anyways, so if you just after bling, why not?
just don't expect much from them besides something to hold on when you leers over the bay. If they bend under your weight, well, that tells a thing or two about "stiffening".
If you really want stiffer chassis, seam weld it.

Many seems to confuse chassis stiffening as performance mods, thinking they will improve the performance. Unless you go for roll cages and seam welding, they don't do much to a normal car than reducing some small flexes, especially for newer cars. your might improve some, since it is on the earlier years.

Cool, thanks. Just wanted to check with someone who knows before I jump into buying anything useless. When I was rebuilding CX 500's there were some parts that didn't make a difference whether you spent $15 or $250, the only difference was showing off how much you've spent on the bike. I just wanted to check if this was one of those things.

Re: E-bay strut bars?

rear sway bar does wonders, but not sure which would bolt to your car
