Vtec hook up?
I just bought my first real tuner due to my 86 chevy pickup burning to the ground monday night. The previous owner installed what i believe is a b18 motor. the vtec is not hooked up but he sayd there are 2 electrical connecters that have to be plugged into the vtec solenoid. any body have any tips or diagrams where i find these wires??? thanks

If the wires aren't there, I bet you don't have what you need.
I bet (if it really is a different engine) that it was dropped in using the cars original wiring and ECM. You would need a correct ECM for the engine, and either a correct wiring harness or laying new wires for the missing components.

Re: Vtec hook up?
Id like to think it was the correct ECM considering it doesnt fit to bolt in on the floor board but i could be wrong. If i do have the wrong setup, do i need wiring harness and ECM only or is there more involved than that?

Re: Vtec hook up?
Well, you probably need a lot more information.
You need to know what the engine came from, and what ECM it is supposed to have. Then see if the harness has the extra connectors the engine needs, and since you posted this I assume it doesn't. They could be fabricated, but I couldn't tell you if you can just plug wiring in to the ECM connector. The ECM would need to be correct in order to operate the VTEC. Right now I assume it isn't right for the engine because it should have codes set for VTEC stuff since it is all missing. Same goes for a knock sensor if there is one on the back of the block.
These are all assumptions.
