Exclamation Plz help, I'm new to this, need some advice

Hello all, I just bought a 95 civic coupe to have a basic A-B transportation car. My other car is a 1991 Oldsmobile 98 Regency, hence the name. I am a decent mechanic but I've always worked on American cars. This is my first Japanese car. I was expecting it to be a little penalty box, just basic transportation. Boy, was I in for a surprise. The car I bought is possibly the most basic Civic available in 1995. No factory power steering, 5spd manual trans, and manual EVERYTHING. A real night-and-day difference from my Olds. This particular Civic also has the 1.5L SOHC engine. I'm not one of these people that has every Honda engine code memorized, so I have no idea what I have, but I have a hunch that it was the most basic engine available at the time. What surprised me about this car is what a blast it is to drive! What a delight that tranny is! But I badly miss the grunt from my big old American V6. My big question here is this; is it worth upgrading the 1.5 to just get some tiny HP gains (furthermore, are performance parts even available for this engine?), or am I better off doing an engine swap? I ask this because, the car is a LOT of fun to drive, but is in dire need of more horsepower, the 1.5 stock is pretty slow. What are some simple, easy things I can do to squeeze more power out of this thing shy of forced induction? Anything like performance exhaust headers, distributors, camshafts, bolt on stuff? Also, what is a good, easy-to-install aftermarket tach? My car doesn't have a tach, and I prefer to have one with a stick.
