Over heating issue please help
Hi I have a 92 civic d15b7 I have posted about two weeks ago about a over heating issue I was on my way home from work and was in a little traffic and I felt the car start idling a little funny so I looked at my gauges and noticed the car was a little warmer then normal but if I put the car in neutral and reved it up the car would cool down so I did that til I got home. I noticed the overflow tank full so the radiator was pushing coolant into the overflow so i took some fluide from the overflow to the max line Well then I bleed some air from the coolant system and toped off the radiator and the car ran great for a week then started the same again so I replaced the thermostat and the overflow tank was full again so I took fluid out well today I noticed a coolant smell comming from the car I popped the hood and the overflow tank is full again and now blowing coolant from it but the car is not over heating it is running great it just has that problem I got a bad feeling that maybe I have a head gasket issue if I do it looks fairly easy to replace but I'm not sure
Re: Over heating issue please help
Does sound like a head gasket. It's a big job to replace and can cost some $$ to do right, even if you do it yourself. (I've never done it but am reseaching it for my car.) First step is to make sure it's the head gasket. Perhaps have a chemical test, which looks for exhaust that got pushed into the coolant:

Today I did a compression test on the engine it ranged between cylender #4 170 #3 155 #2 155 #1 170 the plugs looked great no oil no damage what so ever so then I dripped some oil off the dip stick on the exhaust manifold and it did not sizzle it just smoked there is no smoke comming from the tail pipe at all so then I left the car running for over 3 hrs and never once got hot I was told by a friend who is ase certified to try replacing the radiator cap. This think is driving me crazy
Re: Over heating issue please help
i dont mean to hijack the thread but i also didnt want to start a new one for a similar issue, i too am overheating but its very random, the coolant level is fine (until it boils over) the water pump is working fine, i can see the coolant circulating just fine when i remove the cap and let it run, i just replaced the thermostat, didnt help, and i tested the old one and it was fine, also replaced the hoses to the overflow and the radiator cap, nothing is helping, im thinking either the radiator is plugged somewhere or the head gasket is leaking, i burped the radiator for about 15 minutes and a few bubbles came out at first and then it settled down but when i rev the engine i get microscopic little tiny bubbles, nothing that seems too bad but could the be the gasket leaking? seems like it only wants to overheat at freeway speed 65+, when im on the surface streets it seems fine and it will only boil over maybe once a week, im stumped and need some help. heat blows hot, really hot lol, and the fan comes on when it gets hot enough (normal temp) but the damn car will never kick the fan on while idling in the driveway, it wont ever reach the point where it gets hot enough to kick on, whats the deal?
