Rear defogger power clips

Rear defogger power clips
1992 Civic LX: How do you remove the power clips attached to the rear window defogger? Press the button, pull on the wire? Press the button, pull on the black plastic shroud?
I'm getting power to rear window, but think I need to clean the power clips and re-insert them to make good contact. I am confused how to work the black plastic cover around the clip. It says "PUSH" on it. Because of the tight quarters, it is challenging to access the clips. I'm concerned if I get too physical I might separate the clip from the window.
