Where to start?

So I've been thinking about giving my 97 Civic LX more pep in it's step. After reading some of the guides in this forum (I'm new to Hondas and modding in general) I'm thinking a B16 swap and turbo in the future would be great. However, I probably won't have the funds to do all of that for a while. I've considered buying a new exhaust and a cold air intake in the mean time to give me a little more power. Is that a stupid idea? No need to be gentle, I realize I'm ignorant in this field. I've also thought about upgrading to an Exedy stage 1 clutch, since it will need a new clutch soon anyway. Are these stupid money wasting ideas or am I on the right track?

Thanks,
TheFinder

Re: Where to start?

It's your money but I do not think it is stupid to spend a little on some mods in the mean time.

**I wouldn't spend money on Cams or internals if your swapping.

But, while you are "waiting for more money" open a savings account and put money in there any chance you can. If you have a steady pay check put money from every check even if its $10. If I had done that back when I first started driving I would be better off with what I can do with my car. Swapping requires tools and other things so your goin to need money for that also so the money you save could go towards that. Also always good to have money saved and ready to go so that if you come across a great deal on something you can make an offer.

Re: Where to start?

If you want the swap, save for the swap. All those parts (intake, exhaust, clutch) won't work with the b16 swap. Well, an exhaust would, but you'd prolly have to have an exhaust shop cut and weld to fit.

Re: Where to start?

Thanks for the advice guys, I guess for now I'll just wait and see what kind of money I can come up with. I'm not looking to build a drag car, I just want to have fun with my daily driver. There's so much information out there it's hard to know what to do first, or which engine to choose. From what I've gathered a turbo b16 will allow me to have fun and not be crazy expensive. At least I hope so...
