really hot temperature...why?

go out and buy one of those laser temp. reader things from napa..point it at ur muffler or actually... sumwhere near ur manifold and get a reading.

install an EGT gauge. Anything getting beyong 1400 is too hot.
Its not a matter of HP, its a matter of the tuning. You can control your EGTs with the AFR and the ignition timing

Im assuming your not boosted, and if not I dont know why you would post up if you do not have any info that would benifit boosted setups.
He wants to know about the exhaust gas temperature to know where is a safe point for him to be running.
An EGT gauge (pyrometer) uses a probe installed in the path of the exhaust flow, either in the Y pipe, Down pipe or exhaust manifold and will give the temparatures as they change under different driving conditions. As Boilermaker1 already stated, anything above 1400 is hot, resulting in a lean condion meaning the engine is not getting enough fuel. Idealy you would want to be around 1100 and as you go WOT, and under boost the temps will rise but you want to tune so that the engine never really sees the 1400 mark or never goes beyond that.
You can adjust the fuel ratio by using different methods. You can use an engine managment system, or a FPR, and using adequete sized per injectors setup will help eliminate lean condions a well. Tuning so that you run a bit rich will result in lower EGTs.
Adjusting the timing really wont lower the EGTS, but retarding it will make the engine perform safer under lean conditions (high EGTs)
