suspension help

hello i have a few questions for u guys and would like ur help/opinion. i have a 2000 civic ex and wanna lower the car to improve the appearance and the handling. i don't race the car or take it to the track. i just want something to improve the performance a bit and look good with still keeping it semi comfortable. first question was about the height, i was thinking about dropping it 2-2.25. do u guys think that would be a good height to accomplish what i want?? next thing i wanna ask is about the set up of the shocks and coils. im on a budget and can only spend about 4-5 hundred on the suspension. as far as the shocks go from what ive read there are only a few shocks in my budget,

tokico HP shocks- heard pretty good things
kyb gr-2 shocks- heard there pretty much oem replacmetns
skunk 2 sport shocks- not heard much

what shocks would u think are best?? i was thinking the blues but heard u can only drop 1-1.5 on those and i wanna go lower. i was also wondering if its better to go with just lowering springs or coilover sleeves. there were a few coilover sleeves i saw that were lower prices but couldn't find much reviews on them.

-omni power coilover sleevs- like $200 bucks but cant find any revies
-megan racing coilover sleevs- only like $100 bucks and no real reviews but seam to cheap a price to be good
-dropzone coilover sleeves- like $150 but heard mixed reviews

was hoping i could find some people who have had them or know ppl who have. if not coilover sleeves then what spring would u recommend that are affordable. i know its alot of questions but thanks in advance for the help

Re: suspension help

Don't go more than 1.5 inches... in fact that's the most that the tokico blues can go like you said. OEM shocks won't withstand any kind of a drop . Even brand new ones will blow in a year or so. Do it right and replace the shocks with a set like Tokico blues which are designed for a small drop. Sleeves are also a bad idea because they will blow your shocks.

The only way to get a bigger drop than 1.5 or 2 inches is to start spending some real money.

Re: suspension help

lower than 1.5 will not do anything for performance. all it does is make for a very harsh and bumpy ride, and lots of scraping the car on stuff like speedbumps, driveways, etc. i have tokico hp shocks and they are great with a 1-1.5 inch drop. i went with 1 inch drop and even that is a big difference from stock as far as ride quality. if you go with tokicos, then you only need lowering springs to go with em like eibach, tein, etc. dont forget to add a camber kit to align the car, stock is not adjustable with lower car. then add install and alignment. youre prolly looking around $800 for a good setup that will last at least 5 yrs.

eibach springs $200 (used $100)
tokicos $350
camber kits $150
install+alignment $200-250

Re: suspension help

Re: suspension help

ah okay no thats too low for the tokicos. they will hold up for a while, but prolly not for the normal 5yrs+. maybe only 2-3 yrs before they start to leak.

Re: suspension help

i dont know of any that go so low, prolly gonna have to go with a good brand of adjustable coilovers which is spring and shock as one piece.
