Sound improvement over stock?

I am thinking about installing some new speakers in the front doors of my '99 LX. They still have the stock speakers and stock connectors. I popped off the speaker panel and removed the speaker and noticed the stock speaker is made of paper and it's made by Pioneer? Do you think aftermarket speakers will have noticeable difference in sound quality? I'm not a huge audio geek, so I don't need the best out there. I was looking at a pair of $40 6 1/2" sony speakers at walmart. Thanks

not unless you at least put an aftermarket head unit in. best bet would be a HU, speakers and an amp. you're looking at a few hundred there though. a cheap HU and speakers could be less than $150.

You know it will not hurt, I would try it, except check the mounting depth, if too deep you might have to cut the back plastic cup.

just upgrading speakers will help quite a bit, provided you get some replacements with a low input wattage to match the factory stereo. those 40w pioneers at walmart are excellent.

i didnt think it was that much better when i did it. of course that was 8 years ago and i'm a little pickier about sound quality than some.

Re: Sound improvement over stock?

it also depends on the car i shouldve said and what speakers it comes with. in the civic, it wasnt a huge difference but the clarity was improved.

Re: Sound improvement over stock?

I know this thread is over a year old, but I'm thinking of doing this again. I recently ditched the stock deck and got a new sony HU. Does anyone know what wattage the front stock door speakers are? Also what is the mounting depth so I know what too look for. I don't want to have to cut anything up. I would like to find a set that will fit in the door without cutting the back cup out. Thanks.
